Beautiful pillars of state 1 cl on ebay right now.

As we remember with the golden kite a "only shipping to us"-policy might cause another bargain. We'll see...

The way round shipping to US only for me is to use a friend's address in the US, pay him to send it to me and when I meet him once a year ply him liberally with Jack Daniels.

I thought of that too and asked the seller but he only ships to the ebay address which must be in the US. So for me that's checkmate.

You can change your ebay adress and I am sure you must be able to find some one willing to use his ebay account to buy it for you....

Before bidding on this one someone should explain (at least to himself) the eccentric look of badge on the breast star.

Last time I checked - this badge should be gold-plated.

Interesting, that separately this breast star = 2nd class and badge = 3rd class (especially since there is no ribbon in sight).

I wonder if seller realize that

Doesn't the large suspension ring indicate a grand cross?

    Yep.

If I remember correctly 1st class badge has suspension ring with diameter (approximately of course) 16,5-17 mm and 3rd class badge has ring with diameter 10-10,5 mm.

P.S. Sometimes I see 1st class sets with badges that have double ring construction of 3rd class. These are most likely artificially created sets ;)

I think that goes without saying.

Well, I guess I was wrong. I didn't expect it to go so high.

    Sash badge: $5655

    Breast star: $4400

$10.055 for a set without sash, box and with wrongly plated breast star....

It is the Badge of the 1st class!
Diameter of a ring at the 3rd class of 9 mm
At the Sun, Clouds, Treasure, the Gold Kite diameter of a ring at the 4th, the 5th, the 6th and below classes of 15,5-16 mm
The 1st classes diameter of a ring have 18 mm (+)
On a photo with a ruler 11 divisions from 16 are visible
It is a little more than 11.
    It turns out 18 mm
    I congratulate the winner!

    Seriously?!

I'd say pretty sweet price ;)

But then again - not a first class set anymore, since it looks like badge and star were bought bybtwo different buyers ...

I remember one complete first class with sash going on an auction recently for ~6000 €.

+ Here we have that only USA bidders thing going on.

Yep, to different buyers but that shouldn't be a surprise.

While on topic, do you have an idea what happened to the red enamel on this one?

    Looks like an unfinished piece.

Looks like this breast star lost its original red enamel (at least in several places) and somebody decided to cover it with a lay of red lacquer (?) or was it cold enamel (?).

    Anyway, looks pretty terrible ...

Good evening gentlemen and best wishes to all.

I do not believe that the breast star was wrongly plated. There is a grouping of eight major stars on the circumference of the medal. Each of the groups consist of six fluted rays of which the diagonal sets of rays are gilded and the others are silver.

(Reference Peterson page 147 paragraph 6. This can also be seen on close inspection of the furnished photos

Yes, the rays of the star base are correct silver and gilt but not the badge on the star. Peterson, same paragraph "the breast star is 81 mm in diameter, convex and has the gold-plated enameled badge set with pearls"
