utopis
WWII medal bar belonging to a Romanian officer. Interesting is the Croatian Order of King Zvonimir. Even more interesting than that is the Sacred treasure at the end.
Claudius
Nice bar! his officer already had a long career when he had this bar put together. Thanks for posting.
JapanX
Hmmm This sacred treasure looks like it came from late 10s-early 20s ... P.S. I presume "on sale in Canada"

These Canadian specials of ours are getting more and more..."special" The Croatian Zvonimir looks late war issue, which would make the recipient very old Edited November 13, 2013 by Rogi
Paul R
Are you all saying that this bar is put together?

Rogi
Are you all saying that this bar is put together? It could be probable (I'm not that into bars) but I don't believe I've ever seen a Croatian and Japanese piece together on a bar. The recipient would have to be very good shape for his age. If you could track down any foreign recipients from Romania that match that timeline, it could be possible. Assuming he was 30ish when he received the Sacred Treasure, that would make him older than 50 (depends on 10s or 20s for the Treasure) but I can't see a 50 something solider receiving a Zvonimir with swords late in the war from Croatia, I do know they handed out a lot of Zvonimirs to foreign recipients but.. this would be a rare combo on a late war piece. It is most likely a put together specimen. Edited November 13, 2013 by Rogi
Paul R
I like the wear on the ribbon and all, but I am trying to understand what you are referring to about it being for sale in Canada. What are Canada specials?

But I don't know Romanian bars, and I don't need to because I don't collect them. I liked the look of the ribbons and the back.

JapanX
So many questions! "On sale in Canada" and (I guess) "Canada Specials" mean that the style of these photos is typical for one well known canadian dealer.

Ulsterman
Was the Sacred Treasure awarded to Senior Officers? I thought it was an NCOs/ company officers' award.
JapanX
Sacred treasure was a general award of course. Order class corresponds to your current rank and longevity of service. If you are General - 2nd class. If you are Lieutenant - 6th class.
Paul R
What class is on this bar? Did NCOs ever receive this award? Were subsequent awardings(upgrades due to rank) worn with the lower grade, or did the higher grade completely replace the lower?
JapanX
Looks like 6th class to me. Yes, NCO's got this award in lower classes. Higher grade of this order completely replaces the lower.
Rogi
Zvonimir was primarily for NCO of lower classes (which this is) but it was rare for it to be awarded to a Foreign NCO, especially Romanian (more likely German NCO), if a Romanian received a Zvonimir in this time period, it would most likely have been a Merit Medal of Zvonimir of some sort (bronze or iron) a higher class of Zvonimir later in the war to a foreign recipient would have been higher officer.
