Jerry B Posted April 21, 2014 Author Posted April 21, 2014 Jerry, you must have a very tolerant wife The MKII Brodie pictured top right has A2059 stencilled on it, do you know the meaning? Tony Hi Tony, indeed I do. I also have other nations headgear as well as these, and some uniforms, etc..... No idea on the stencilled A 2059 insignia, I thought it was perhaps for Anglesey Home Guard, while others have suggested an unknown factory guard.
Jerry B Posted April 22, 2014 Author Posted April 22, 2014 A few that were not included above. Home guard mkii with textured paint. Post 53 Royal Engineers officers SD cap. 1940 dated pill box cap, incorrectly badged to the 8th Kurkha rifles. It came with the badge, but is uncertainly but probably for the Royal Malay regiment.
Paul R Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 Very impressive collection of headgear. I look forward to seeing your future updates! What does a mint standard broadie go for these days? I have had one in my collection for the past 30 years and have no idea what they fetch. Also, is there a way to figure out the date of manufactor and whether it was British, Canadian, Austrailian, or etc?
Brian Wolfe Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 Hi Jerry, Excellent collection, thanks for sharing it with us. Do keep us posted with future additions, as I'm sure there is more in your future. Regards Brian

Jerry B Posted April 22, 2014 Author Posted April 22, 2014 Very impressive collection of headgear. I look forward to seeing your future updates! What does a mint standard broadie go for these days? I have had one in my collection for the past 30 years and have no idea what they fetch. Also, is there a way to figure out the date of manufactor and whether it was British, Canadian, Austrailian, or etc? If you find an extra visor cap for an officer of the 39th Infantry Division(India), I will provide it a great home! Hi Paul, thanks for the comment. WWI examples can usually be dated by the type of liner and the main difference between UK and US versions is the manner in which the chinstrap lugs are mounted, the latter having a rivet that looks the same as WWII commonwealth versions and the former looks more like a split rivet as shown below. Nearly all UK WWII period helmets have dates on the shells and the liners, though sometimes the date on the shell is obscured and very rarely there is not date on the liner. There are variations between the different commonwealth helmets, most obvious being the makers marks on the shell, but also the location of the makers marks varies, the British is nealry always next to the lugs, Canadians have their MM at the rear etc... If you want to show the helmet I will be happy to provide as much information as I can on it. I did notice your thread on the Indian uniform group, very nice, but I think you might struggle to get the correct cap to match it, certainly an example with regimental buttons could be very hard to find. I have two Royal Indian Army jackets from WWII that I will show at some stage.
Paul R Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 Very nice!! Thank you for the detailed explanation. I will take a look at the helmet today and post some images on another thread. Regarding the visor cap, I figured that it would not be an easy item to find. Never hurts to ask! :-) I look forward to seeing your uniforms!
Tony Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 Police MKII with variant stencil thought to be for a WPC. ROCo 1939, Helmnets ltd 1938 MKI liner MKI with textured paint and 1917 type liner with the added rubber ring. Named to owner JH Schwarz. Jerry, Why is it thought to be for a WPC? I only have one MKII police helmet so have no idea about variant stencils. Your named MKI - was JH Schwarz a US soldier or Brit./Commonwealth? Obviously a German family name, I always find that interesting and have come across a few medals named to men whose parents were born in Germany but have never come across any documentation/named photos of German soldiers with Anglo names. Tony

Tony Hi Tony, I only have the information from others, but the more common version of the Police decal is different to this one and I have been told that it is thought to be for a WPC. There were three J Schwarz's who served in the British army during WWI, though one had a G as his middle intial, so not likely to be him. The other two are listed below. John Schwarz RR Cav 2nd 9798 Joshua Schwarz East York Regiment 7300

15THPACAV Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 Here are some of my British offficer dress & service forage caps. I guess that I'm a snob, since I concentrate on Cavalry & Guards regiments! BobS
15THPACAV Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 A few more; apologies for my weak photo "skills."
15THPACAV Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 And....., a few more; it's been 35 years in the making!
Jerry B Posted October 21, 2014 Author Posted October 21, 2014 Nice to see your caps Bob. http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_10_2014/post-17018-0-60293700-1413914595.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_10_2014/post-17018-0-67406600-1413914617.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_10_2014/post-17018-0-59917300-1413914685.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_10_2014/post-17018-0-06963300-1413914703.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_10_2014/post-17018-0-73368400-1413914719.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_10_2014/post-17018-0-32999300-1413914744.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_10_2014/post-17018-0-56397000-1413914764.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_10_2014/post-17018-0-70683000-1413914790.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_10_2014/post-17018-0-64803800-1413914809.jpg
Jerry B Posted October 21, 2014 Author Posted October 21, 2014 The Lancers field officers forage cap is a real beauty, though all of them are, but that is the one I most like to have from your collection Bob.

Thanks, Jerry. I presume you mean the 17th/21st Lancers cap? One of my favorite regiments, and I reckon everyone likes the "motto." I picked up my first cap, the Queen's Own Hussars, at Herbert Johnson's shop in London, in 1976. Little did I know....... I would love to pick up some Yeomanry officer caps, but they seem to be quite scarce. One cap I do regret selling was an Essex Yeomanry officer's. I have a 1960's Ayrshire Yeomanry officer's cap, but I cannot find the correct cap badge; quite annoying. BobS

I have an SD cap for them and a forage cap would be a great addition. I have two missing their badges, the Royal Scots greys Sd cap I got the other day and a Dorsetshire regiment forage cap. i am sure I will find them sooner or later.
