Robin Lumsden Posted May 15, 2014 Author Posted May 15, 2014 And finally ................... Took 43 years ................ from 1971 to 2014 ................. to gather these all campaign beauties together. Most were easy to find. Could pick them up almost anywhere. But a few .............................. Lorient and Dunkirk were hard enough to locate. But the Balkan and the Metz were KILLERS to get !!!!
Robin Lumsden Posted May 15, 2014 Author Posted May 15, 2014 And the icing on the cake ...................
Robin Lumsden Posted May 15, 2014 Author Posted May 15, 2014 The Lappland came from this vet group .....................
Robin Lumsden Posted May 15, 2014 Author Posted May 15, 2014 Same type as on this citation ..................
Robin Lumsden Posted May 15, 2014 Author Posted May 15, 2014 (edited) The Warsaw is, of course, an early post-war Souval copy, based on the original approved design which was never manufactured. It had to be included for the sake of completeness. Edited May 15, 2014 by Robin Lumsden
Ulsterman Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 (edited) So.....do you think the Balkan shield was also manufactured in 1945? I was under the impression that jury was still out on the Lorient shield. Still, awesome collection. bravo. Edited May 15, 2014 by Ulsterman
Martin W Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 Fantastic Robin. A pleasure to see the "evolution". Just a great collection and i am glad to see your dedication to collecting these awards has paid off,so to speak. Regards,Martin.
J Temple-West Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 A phenomenal collection, Robin.. I salute you.The question has to asked....what's next on the wish list?
Robin Lumsden Posted May 16, 2014 Author Posted May 16, 2014 Ulsterman. The Balkan was, of course, never mass-produced or issued. The thing shown here is the unique hand-cut trial matrix. It accompanied the pen-and-ink design drawing by von Arent, submitted to the Chancellery for approval. It was just too late in the war to be approved !! The Lorient was an unofficial Xmas gift to the long-suffering troops !! Never worn on the arm ...................... just dished out as a souvenir. Martin. Thanks !! A man after my own heart. John. Nothing left on the wish list. The campaign collection is complete. The 'Spanien 1936-1939' was a unit tradition cuff title. Not a campaign award. Otherwise, I could have included it on the list.
Robin Lumsden Posted May 16, 2014 Author Posted May 16, 2014 Ulsterman. Here are some good and bad Balkan and Lorient comparisons ......................... Really ................ the Good, the Bad and the Ugly !!!
hucks216 Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 (edited) ....... John. Nothing left on the wish list. The campaign collection is complete. ... You could always try to collect examples of Soldbucher or Wehrpasse that have one of the campaign awards entered. Just a thought Edited May 16, 2014 by hucks216
Paul R Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 Wow! They are multiplying like rabbits in a berry patch(although rabbits multiply much faster than 43 years). Beautiful focus Robin. Was the Westwall considered to be a campaign medal of sorts, for the Western Front?
Robin Lumsden Posted May 17, 2014 Author Posted May 17, 2014 Hello Paul. I think it would be stretching it a bit to classify the West Wall Medal as a campaign award ......................... a bit like the 'Flower Wars' medals !!
hucks216 Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 Like these ??? ..................... Something like that, yes I have a Soldbuch with a similar 'Dunkirchen' stamped & signed note attachment as you show. Dated for the same day as well but for one of the soldiers in the Grenadier Rgts.
