nesredep Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 Here's a tradition badge for U-2538, a Type XXI boat. Although there is no provenance on this badge, it matches the description given by Oblt. Heinrich Klapdor in Georg H?gel's book (page 177).Hello!Very nice. All the bestNesredep
storage133 Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 Hello Sto,Your photo looks very similar to the artifact in my collection attributed to U-331, which was attached to the 23 U-Flottille from 15 Oct, 1941 - 14 Apr, 1942. I purchased this from Detlev Niemann several years back and I believe it to be a period-made cap badge mounted on a plaque.Best Regards,ErikHello Eric, many thanks for your answer.i hope to call it "My item" on Tuesday.Your new posted badges are really wounderful! Now i know what i put on my wish-list for christmas. Best regardsSto
Erik Krogh Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 Sto: Thanks for your nice words and good luck with your new acquisition! Here is a tradition badge for U-403. Gordon's book "Torpedo los!" depicts what appears to be an enameled badge for this boat on page 83: my badge is obviously different. Nonetheless, this badge looks and feels period. Anyone have any thoughts?
Erik Krogh Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 Tradition badge for Kapit?nleutnant Rolf Thomsen's boat U-1202. This badge is somewhat crudely made, but came out of the same collection as the U-403, U-825, and U-2538 badges in my collection.Obverse:
Eric JB Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Andy,Could be a U-Boat tradition badge, but I couldn't find an exact match in the H?gel book. Here is a well-known photo of Werner Hartmann and some U-37 crew. Note that the trident does not have the same "bend" as yours.Best Regards,ErikSorry Erik but that photo doesn't show U-37.It shows U-198 after the return of her first warpatrol.Left to right : Li. Wessels, Kmdt. Hartmann and Bordarzt Dr. Woerne.yours friendlyEric-Jan
storage133 Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 Deas sirs, here is my last find. The needle on the back is replaced I think. The body could be brass, the fox head is made with black, red and white enamel. Maybe U-255 or U-3023. Best regards Sto
2dresq Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 (edited) Tradition badge for U-826. No provenance on this one, but I took a chance... These tradition badge are absolutely stellar gentlemen. All very nice and in such great condition too. Thanks for sharing. The "laughing sawfish" ain't laughing no more Could have been a caption for that badge. I also especially liked that shot of the 1st U-boat flotille pin with the sub pens behind it. Again, a superb collection gentlemen. Justin 2dresq Edited September 26, 2009 by 2dresq
nesredep Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 Hello! Very interesting thread. All the best Nesredep.
2dresq Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 Hi Could this be a U-Boot emblem? I found it on a flea market. Andy I believe this is the "fictional" insignia for the Sub in the movie " U-571" . This could be a movie prop. Regards, JustinG
Erik Krogh Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 U-24 Tradition Badge Here's a new badge that came on the card below. Oblt. Dieter Lenzmann commanded both U-24 and U-3522 (Type XXI) at war's end, so the card seems legit.
storage133 Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 Congrats Erik, very nice ! Best regards Sto

Jesse Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 (edited) Here's one from U-108 I think. (U-431, U-864 or U-1209 may have had a sililar one, not sure. I believe that it may represent the Boat's sponsor city of Danzig.) Edited December 8, 2009 by Jesse
Jesse Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 And the back of it. (The back can be almost as interesting to me as the front because they can show what material the badge was made from and such).
Jesse Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 Possibly from the U-404, or of the 6th or 23rd Flotillas
Jesse Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 (edited) And the rear. Edited December 8, 2009 by Jesse
Jesse Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 And U-558's "Old Wooden Eye" - in refrence to keeping look out on the conning tower and staying alert. Obviously a tedious and difficult duty being exposed to the elements during the 4 hr. shifts. This is what it all amounted too I think. Spoting a threat and submerging within 30 seconds or spotting targets. "Sei wach holzauge" = tranlated means "wood eye is awake"
