Richard Gordon
JohnLooks like a beauty! Was this the one Carsten Baldes had?One question... the hinge (attached to the pin part) looks gilded. I had thought the pin was standard (just blued) for all pilot and P/O. Is it gilded or is it worn? The hinge just looks a bit odd in the pic.Rich
J Temple-West
Hi Rich,Yes it's the pic... The hinge is all brass which blends in with the gilding. Not unusual to find examples without the blued central piece. I was talking to T.C and, going on the MM, it looks like this badge one one earliest to be marked with the full name after the "CEJ" mark ended.Oh yes, this came from C.B. Neil B
John, you have a knack of obtaining the most wonderful badges.A piece of that quality-with or without provenance-would grace any collection. Is the Officer in the picture the recipient?Neil

J Temple-West
Hi Alex,"Pilot or Pilot/Observer?" With most of the finish having been absorbed it's a hard call to make. Going on the photos, remnants of finish to the reverse look to be white which would point to it being a Pilot's badge.
