    The Portugese Overseas Expeditions Medal

    Recommended Posts

    Gents,

Below is a picture of this medal with two bars on its ribbon, TIMOR 1895 and INDIA 1896. I have no other information than that the medal was probably instituted in 1913 (and am not even sure I've correctly identified it). The bars refer to earlier operations and may thus be retroactively awarded. I would appreciate more information on this medal and the bars that were issued with it, some historical background, anything you'd care to mention for my enlightment.

    Thanks,

    Hendrik

Russ Furtado will speak on Portuguese Campaign Medals and Bars of the 19th and 20th Centuries at the August 8-11OMSA convention; in Milwaukee, WI; other international seminar topics are "The Order of Grey-Town" Alan Menke and "The Imperial Order of the Starry Cross" – Tim Brown

Other seminars address U.S. & UK subject matter -- full descriptions at http://www.omsa.org/content/2013-convention-seminars. The OMSA website has more convention details as well.

Some good talks there. The US section has a talk with cross over to the international seminar, Jeff floyd and Bob Gill, Foreign Medal awards to the US Military. Sounds interesting. That should keep me away from the bar for a while on Thursday
