Steve K. Posted July 21, 2017 Posted July 21, 2017 Jumping back into collecting, I picked up this 2x Mecklenburg bar with original ribbons....in for the unification but out before the Franco-Prussian...please let me know your thoughts. 1
Steve K. Posted July 22, 2017 Author Posted July 22, 2017 Is it odd for an officer not to have any awards?...this is essentially just service award for the unification and a long service award for 9 years.
dedehansen Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 Hi Steve, this is a Dienstauszeichnung für 9 Jahre für Unteroffiziere und Mannschaften. Kind regards Andreas
seeheld Posted July 27, 2017 Posted July 27, 2017 Sorry to say like that, but it is not a bar from Mecklenburg. It's Oldenburg! Here is a long service cross mounted insteate of a missing Campaign medal from Oldenburg 1866! regards Seeheld

The ribbon of Oldenburg medal 1866 is rather red in the middle, and the internal stripes in dark blue... http://antique-photos.com/en/awardsdatabase/german-empire/oldenburg/291-1866-military-campaign-medal.html
seeheld Posted July 27, 2017 Posted July 27, 2017 (edited) 100% sure The Mecklenburg ribbons are more lighter and not so colourful. Edited July 27, 2017 by seeheld
tompress Posted July 27, 2017 Posted July 27, 2017 Nice bar, but on your picture Oldenburg medal is on the correct 1st position - and on the bar of thread starter behind the cross (as the Long Service Corss should be)
seeheld Posted July 27, 2017 Posted July 27, 2017 negative never ever But if you don't trust my knowledge, then go ahead. two short questions: why I have never meet a collector in our archives in Mecklenburg? How is possible that I have all mecklenburgian rolls and thousands of files in copy, but always other collectors have more knowledges? best regards Frank
tompress Posted July 27, 2017 Posted July 27, 2017 I am just asking For sure, I haven't so big knowledge and experience as you...
dedehansen Posted July 27, 2017 Posted July 27, 2017 Hi Gents, please trust Frank, he is the best Mecklenburg specialist I know. for comparison Mecklenburg and Oldenburg Kind regards Andreas
Steve K. Posted July 29, 2017 Author Posted July 29, 2017 Thanks for your help Seeheld.....jumping back into collecting after a long hiatus and I'm very rusty....too bad it isn't Mecklenburg. I would love to add another to my collection but it is seems not today.

Steve K. Posted August 2, 2017 Author Posted August 2, 2017 Heiko.....agreed. I didn't mean to say that Oldenburg isn't good, just not in my collecting field
