notned Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 Evening Gents,These just surfaced down my way...wondering if they are Imperial rank buttons??Any help will be appreciated thanks! RegardsPaul
Daniel Murphy Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 I am not sure what they are (perhaps Polish ?), but they are not Prussian rank buttons. Sorry.Dan Murphy
Chip Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 You might get some clue from any maker information on the back, though often the manufacture of military buttons was farmed out to other countries. The eagle buttons are all Polish. The one on the bottom right looks similar to a French artilllery button, but this motif is pretty common for artillery, so it may well be Polish too.Chip

Daniel Murphy Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 The second one (crowned "L") is not a rank button.Any idea whaty it is?I would say 1860's-70's Bavarian. It does look like the badge of mad King Ludwigs cypher as on their raupenhelm of the period.Dan
Chip Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 Tom,According to a Moritz Ruhl book I have, your shoulder strap button was worn by the Leib-Komp. of the Hess. 115.L.G.I.R. and the Leib-Esk. of the 23.Drag.Rgt.Chip

Chris Boonzaier Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 Was lucky enough to get a button lot on ebay for 11EUR ;-)
Chip Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 The pair of collar disks are nice. Must be from the transitional period, before the Bluse was introduced for the Bavarians. Their new design disk came out in March of 1916. These appear to be painted steel or Kriegsmetall, but with the earlier pattern Löwe. I would expect to see this pattern on the simplified Waffenröcke. Chip
Chris Boonzaier Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 Hi Chip, what did they look like after March 1916? I did not know there were different Bavarian ones. Best Chris
Chip Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 (edited) Chris, Here are examples of the second pattern Bavarian Wappenknöpfen. At the top are a pair of Sergeant disks, then a Gefreiter pair and finally two examples from the Friedensrock. Chip Edited August 31, 2013 by Chip
Chris Boonzaier Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 Here is a single copper one..... I am guessing for the blue jacket?
Chip Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 Chris,Yes, I think this one is for an issue blue Waffenrock.Chip
Stuka f Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 If anyone is in for a swap of buttons, just let me know. I haven't got much German, but I do have a lot of Belgians, French and Dutch. Also civile buttons and buttons with nobility crest's. cheers |<ris
