scottplen Posted November 27, 2017 Posted November 27, 2017 This guy must be a Prussian in a Saxon unit ?
laurentius Posted November 27, 2017 Posted November 27, 2017 Dear Scottplen The albrechtskreuz could have been given for various reasons, yours (being that he was in saxon service) is inplausible, since there is a prussian longservice-award. There are several possible scenarios * He fought in a regiment named after a saxon king or prince * He fought with saxon troops, or alongside them * He was a saxon in a prussian regiment Kind regards, Laurentius
scottplen Posted November 27, 2017 Author Posted November 27, 2017 (edited) So a Saxon in a Prussian unit ? I thought Albert cross was pure Saxon award ? what I'm trying to say is a Saxon in Prussian regt would have to use Prussian order on medal bar ? Edited November 27, 2017 by scottplen
HeikoGrusdat Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 Can we see the back of the bar please? There are at least 3 confusing things on that bar....
scottplen Posted November 28, 2017 Author Posted November 28, 2017 I did not buy it yet ! Confused myself ?
Dave Danner Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 There were at least 46 awards of the Albrechtskreuz mit Schwertern to Prussians, as well as a handful of awards to naval personnel. Most were Feldwebelleutnants. Most of the rest were mid-level Beamten (e.g. Hilfszahlmeister, Feldmagazininspektor, Feldintendantursekretär, Feldhilfsarzt, Feldhilfsveterinär). The swords device does not belong there. 1
HeikoGrusdat Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 reverse looks good as the whole bar does As Dave said , the small sword device is wrong , belongs to a ribbon bar If this is a original old bar it is a very interesting combination - I have never seen this combo of war aid cross and AKX before....what is a bit confusing to me is getting an AKX from saxony and the war aid cross - AKX and EK ok , but AKX and war aid cross - never seen before
HeikoGrusdat Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 Has anybody medal bars with this combination in the collection to show....or photos of this combination in wear?
scottplen Posted November 28, 2017 Author Posted November 28, 2017 Now I need to figure out to pull the trigger and get it ? Not cheap it's $350 hate to do it and not be 100% on it ! thinking he was wounded so no Ek ?
HeikoGrusdat Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 would be a bit too much for me...but if you like it why not , it looks interesting and in good condition.
scottplen Posted November 30, 2017 Author Posted November 30, 2017 Screwed up price was not this high !! Conversations to US dollars messes me up ! So I order it ! Do I take sword device off ?
laurentius Posted November 30, 2017 Posted November 30, 2017 Dear Scottplen Although the swords officialy shouldn't be there they look to be authentic. They were probably put on by the owner and I think it would be a terrible mistake to take them off. These kinds of mistakes were quite common back in the days of the weimar republic, we even have a whole tread for it. I would recommand to keep them on. Kind regards, Laurentius
scottplen Posted November 30, 2017 Author Posted November 30, 2017 Ok thanks ! I was wondering could this guy have received iron cross and wore it in his button hole ? And just not updated his bar ???
laurentius Posted November 30, 2017 Posted November 30, 2017 Dear Scottplen If you ask me, this man probably was a homefront guy, looking at his medal for warmerit. The albrechtskreuz doesn't have to be a awarded during the first world war, they were given out from 1911 up to 1918. Furthermore we have the prussian 15 years service cross and the centenial-medal. Only of the cross for warmerit we can be sure it was awarded during WW1. In all truth, we'll probably never know if this guy had an iron cross, but looking at the fact he had 4 medals mounted with no iron cross makes me doubt it. Kind regards, Laurentius
Ulsterman Posted November 30, 2017 Posted November 30, 2017 My money is on a Deckofficer. Without the SaxAlbx its a classic combination for someone stuck in the Baltic for 1914-18.
scottplen Posted December 10, 2017 Author Posted December 10, 2017 (edited) So why how would a deck officer get Albert cross with swords ?? How many guys had this combo without iron cross ?? Could he have been wounded and not recieved iron cross and spent rest war at home front ? Edited December 10, 2017 by scottplen
Chris Boonzaier Posted December 11, 2017 Posted December 11, 2017 Lets not forget, men could serve in a military unit at the front, then get wounded, invalided out and then get a war aid cross. I have a Bavarian group with MVK3rd class with swords, wounded, invalided, then the prussian War Aid cross.
scottplen Posted December 11, 2017 Author Posted December 11, 2017 Ok thanks that's what I was thinking!
Chris Boonzaier Posted December 11, 2017 Posted December 11, 2017 My Bavarian was mobilised ans a Landsturmmann with no previous miltary experiance, then in April 1918 got the Prussian War Aid as a Bürovorstand, which I guess is an office manager.
scottplen Posted December 11, 2017 Author Posted December 11, 2017 Is there a list of Prussian awards of Albert Cross ?
scottplen Posted December 14, 2017 Author Posted December 14, 2017 Bar arrived today and it's seems all original and correct it have even age and the sword device has been on it forever! Seems to be a nicely made Albert cross made in one piece ! What year would this one date to ???i know early ones had applied centers !
