03fahnen Posted December 11, 2017 Posted December 11, 2017 Hello, I bought this uniform, which I thought was beautiful. I help you identify it, Is it civil or military? Any help is welcome. thank you very much.
Bayern Posted December 12, 2017 Posted December 12, 2017 Beautiful . and rare .Military . Hard to date .perhaps a closer photo of the buttons would be useful .because of the crown .
03fahnen Posted December 12, 2017 Author Posted December 12, 2017 Thank you very much for your quick response. Here are some images of better quality.
coldstream Posted December 12, 2017 Posted December 12, 2017 Very nice uniform but I do not think it is Military, looks like a Victorian Lord Lieutenant or Deputy Lord Lieutenants uniform to me. See here for similar https://www.the-saleroom.com/en-gb/auction-catalogues/chorleys-auctioneers-and-valuers/catalogue-id-srcho10019/lot-fd72d7ff-70cf-4bb1-b988-a4cf00e9634e Regards Simon
peter monahan Posted December 12, 2017 Posted December 12, 2017 I was going to say the same as Coldstream: Lord Lieutenant of a County in the UK would have been my guess. Very lovely.
03fahnen Posted December 12, 2017 Author Posted December 12, 2017 Thank you very much for the information
Jerry B Posted December 12, 2017 Posted December 12, 2017 As already stated Lord LT or Deputy LT is my opinion.
mitrich Posted December 12, 2017 Posted December 12, 2017 (edited) Small addition:collar insignia Rose-English County. I think the epaulettes are need for full complect. Edited December 12, 2017 by mitrich
coldstream Posted December 12, 2017 Posted December 12, 2017 Very nice and would fit well with this uniform, would also need the Swan feather plume for the hat. Regards Simon
Bayern Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 After i have seen the rose braided on the collar and the crown on the buttons I agree . Its not military . and Victorian .the quality of the braid is superb .
03fahnen Posted December 13, 2017 Author Posted December 13, 2017 Thank you very much to all after your indications, I searched, and I think it is indeed a Lord Lieutenant. with a medelo of uniform previous to 1902. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lord_Lieutenant : "The Lord-Lieutenant is the British monarch's personal representative in each county of the United Kingdom" ....
peter monahan Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 (edited) You may already have guessed or known this, Fahnen, but the rose for English counties was replace by shamrocks for Ireland, thistles for Scotland and the Prince of Wales three plumes for Wales. So yours is very definitely one of the English counties. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lord_Lieutenant#Uniform Edited December 13, 2017 by peter monahan
