Duncan Posted October 29, 2018 Posted October 29, 2018 Hello, does anyone know the significance of the VX on this man's service number, VX6443 W Frier? It's on the reverse of an Africa Star. Also, does anyone know of a South African researcher who can get WW2 service records? Thanks Duncan.
coldstream Posted October 30, 2018 Posted October 30, 2018 Duncan, Afraid I can't help regarding the VX prefix however for South African research try rhino.research@icon.co.za or dewald@nelantiques.co.za. Regards Simon.
gavinmedals Posted October 31, 2018 Posted October 31, 2018 Hi, are you sure the Africa Star was awarded to a South African? The VX number looks more like an Australian service number prefix, indicating that the person joined or was from the state of Victoria. Just a suggestion as I do not recall seeing that prefix on South African medals
Michael Johnson Posted October 31, 2018 Posted October 31, 2018 Definitely an Australian: http://www.ww2roll.gov.au/Veteran.aspx?ServiceId=A&VeteranId=421635 https://recordsearch.naa.gov.au/SearchNRetrieve/Interface/DetailsReports/SeriesDetail.aspx?series_no=B883&singleRecord=T
Duncan Posted November 2, 2018 Author Posted November 2, 2018 Thanks for that, yes I believe I got that wrong and he's Australian.
