VtwinVince Posted March 6, 2022 Posted March 6, 2022 I dragged this out to show a fellow member, and thought it might be of interest. Lots of zinc on this bar, and the silver bravery medal is aluminum. 1
Flávio P.Z.Peixoto Posted March 6, 2022 Posted March 6, 2022 It's a very nice bar, I could be wrong, but did it belong to a combat medic because the red cross medal?
VtwinVince Posted March 6, 2022 Author Posted March 6, 2022 Good question, I'm not really up on my K.u.K awards. I guess this guy was an NCO during the Republic period and then later was in the Wehrmacht, hence the Anschluss Medal.
graham Posted March 7, 2022 Posted March 7, 2022 Very interesting combination. Some good info on the A-H red cross medal here: http://www.omsa.org/red-cross-merit-medals-part-i/
CRBeery Posted March 8, 2022 Posted March 8, 2022 We all need that one Austrian in the collection! So few real ones out there. Nice to see your excellent example! 2
VtwinVince Posted March 8, 2022 Author Posted March 8, 2022 Thanks, and I agree that these German-style Austrian bars are somewhat scarce. Yours is really interesting, with the engraved Merit Cross. I once had a group to an officer from Pressburg with a couple of the pre-war Rothe presentation pieces, and one was a peacetime merit cross which was engraved. I wish I still had that group.
VtwinVince Posted March 16, 2022 Author Posted March 16, 2022 As I said earlier, those two are fine examples. especially the first one with the silver merit medal with clasp. 1
