bigjarofwasps Posted July 28, 2023 Posted July 28, 2023 Nuclear Veterans Medal released. Interesting that C111R is facing the same way as E11R.

Megan Posted July 28, 2023 Posted July 28, 2023 At last.... Not a particularly good portrait of the King, though. The coinage head looks far more like him (and is facing in the correct direction). 1
SillyOldGrandad Posted July 28, 2023 Posted July 28, 2023 Only my own opinion but to me that is one gaudy looking medal ribbon, subtle it is not. Pete.

bigjarofwasps Posted September 22, 2023 Author Posted September 22, 2023 Miniature version now available 👍
Cerrig-Man Posted September 22, 2023 Posted September 22, 2023 Has the order of wear for this medal been confirmed yet? I assume that it can be worn along side previously awarded official medals?
Megan Posted September 22, 2023 Posted September 22, 2023 Yes, it goes between the Korea Medal and the General Service Medal 1962.

Interesting, where has this information come from? As I’ve also been told it’s to be mounted after all other medals like the Rhodesia & Ebola examples? Also here’s some photos of the first one, I’ve seen, thought they might be of interest? 1
bigjarofwasps Posted September 30, 2023 Author Posted September 30, 2023 First mounted group, I’ve seen. GSM’s to an Officer of Engineers. Such a shame the Nuclear medal is unnamed ☹️!! Only naming is on the box by all accounts. 1
bigjarofwasps Posted October 22, 2023 Author Posted October 22, 2023 Order of Wear, the Nuclear Test Medal shall sit after the Merchant Navy Medal for Meritorious Service (or any other Efficiency and Long Service Decoration or Medal held) and before the Ebola Medal for Service in West Africa. The Medal is awarded to UK Service and civilian personnel, and individuals from other nations, who served at the locations where the UK atmospheric nuclear tests were conducted, including the preparatory and clear-up phases, between 1952 and 1967 inclusive. The Medal is also awarded to UK personnel who served at locations where American atmospheric nuclear tests took place in 1962 under Operation DOMINIC. Qualifying service for the medal is defined as service of any length. Eligible personnel are defined as follows: (1) UK Service and civilian personnel, and individuals from other nations, who served at the locations where the UK atmospheric nuclear tests were conducted, including the preparatory and clear-up phases, between 1952 and 1967. (2) UK Service and civilian personnel who served at the locations where American atmospheric nuclear tests took place in 1962 under Operation DOMINIC. (3) Foreign nationals who served at the locations where the UK atmospheric nuclear tests were conducted, including the preparatory and clear-up phases, between 1952 and 1967. (4) The medal can be awarded posthumously to the legal next of kin of eligible individuals who have since died.
Megan Posted October 22, 2023 Posted October 22, 2023 That looks official, what's the source? I wrote the Medals Office to enquire but apart from an acknowledgement that wibbled about the Coronation Medal at length they haven't replied yet. 1

Jock Auld Posted October 24, 2023 Posted October 24, 2023 God, he is as ungainly in silhouette as real life....
Megan Posted October 26, 2023 Posted October 26, 2023 It's not as good a portrait as the one they have put on new coinage... this one is barely recognisable without the name written round the edge! But it's good that we are now beginning to see several of these medals 'in the wild'.
