I've never owned one of these before and would like more opinions regarding authenticity.

Also would this have been a wartime issue?

Looks like a reproduction.  Pin catch and pin hinge are a dead give-away.

Wow.  That's depressing.  I myself have done business with Paul Hogle at Lakesidetrader, and I've always had full faith and confidence in him.

I don't like that one either. And I have little confidence in the 'expertise' of dealers.

The Brunswick cross is junk. But I think the Mecklenburg-Schwerin Kriegsverdienstkreuz 1Kl is ok. But it's a late Third Reich manufacture.

 

I have never put my faith in any dealer. I have always relied on my own knowledge gained from extensive, in-depth research. In the areas that I collect, I have always been more knowledgeable than any dealer I've met because I've made an effort to do the work.
