I must concur. They just ooze class and style. Vaulted screwbacks? Even better. When I pick them up I just marvel at the ingenuity of the makers and quality of what they were able to produce.

Look at the pin! It has got the same style of pin like the new Oldenburg and Braunschweig cross fakes!

Would sure like to see a side by side comparison of photos to see if this ek is a fake or only the mark. The cross is very convincing although the wide hinge seems unusual to me. But a side by side would ferrat out the truth.

I don't think the pin is the same Jens... This pin does not have the nasty point like on the Brunswick fakes. The pin on this one looks cut off (blunt) and finished that way to me. granted, the photo isn't the best.

While I am still unsure of the piece, I think logical arguments can be made both ways on this.... I certainly would not spend a great deal of money on one of these until we had more substantive information.

I agree with you about the quality of the core and the beading not being up to the usual Godet standards.

What I can't figure out to my satisfaction is the trademark stamp. It is nicely centered and does seem to have be applied to the back plate before the frame was assembled. The trademark is clearly and evenly struck as if done on a hard surface backing it up during the strike. It doesn't show the light strike or the pushed in or dimpled look of a mark applied after the cross was assembled.

The quality of the hinge (though crookedly applied) is quite good as is the catch.

I really don't know what to make of it.

The cross on the right is the only WW1 example that can be 100% accredited to Godet. I know of no other core appearing on a 'correctly' marked WW1 Godet. It may not be fake, but it's not a Godet as we know it.

If the piece Micha posted is a genuine 30's example (and the use of a Gebruder and not J Godet mark would fit that time frame) this would be a first EVER on an EK1... wouldn't it?

The only 'Gebr Godet' marks I've ever seen have been super elaborate affairs of dubious authenticity on 1870 buttonhole EK's like this one...

...so there is probably no reference point for this particular marking which is always cause for concern....

Look at it closely and compare it with the first one you posted. It's the same cross. Different background. Look at the damage to the beading on the upper arm , left side. Also look at the various spots and lines of patina and scratches.

I think this won't be the only example of that fake. Yes, I am sure it is a fake. It is always strange if two or more completely new and unknown types of medals appear at the same time. Stay away from that cross, thats all I can say.
