    Dear forumites:

I would like to hear your most appreciated comments on this badge, which was offered to me. From the needle on the back it looks like a Meybauer, but since I am not a specialist and don't trust too much from where it is coming, I am very skeptical.

Thanks in advance for your input! :P

    Claudio,

I have never seen that particular style of pin on the back of one of these. The pin also is also mounted in the reverse of what is normally seen. Usually the hinge is to the right when viewed from the back. However, It does appear to be a nice quality piece and I believe it is original. This would have been private purchase from the period of the 20's-30's. But it is not a Meybauer.

    Hello,

I do not have a good feeling on this u-boat badge . This badge is very heavily reproduced and this badge has nice details but still looks like a very good casting to me , the details are not sharp and crisp like the originals that I have seen in the past . The age patina looks odd, as it looks like good aging through chemicals ! This looks like a very good chemically treated repro in my humble opinion .

Dan's right about this not being a Meybauer "fishtail" pin.

I like the hook behind the crown, and the details look good to me, but that brown finish is very strange.

There are a lot of very good copies of the Imperial U-Boat Badge out there. I'd have to admit to being somewhat sceptical of this one. Could be OK, but the top hook wasn't a normal feature of these and the "back to front" pin doesn't fill me with confidence either.

The pin shape is consistent with some examples of Imperial Aviation badges by an as of yet unidentified maker. However, the reversed pin and catch is not something I've seen before....
