notned Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 Hello Gents,Well i ahve fallen in love with Victorian and Edwardian medals...and the research that comes with each peice...So far i have been reasonabley lucky....Here is one beauty;A QSA to a Casualty of the Scottish HorseSeverely wounded at Brakenlaagte 30/10/1901 whilst serving with the 2nd Scotttish HorseShg.STH ( shoeing Smith) W.BainAnd another QSA with no clasps to a chap who was in WW1 and was killed/Died in Mesopotamia 14/7/15aged 39 years leaving behind a Wife and kids. a Joseph. William.Francis. WarrenWas entitled to the following bars to the QSATALANADEFENSE OF LADYSMITHOFSLAINGS NEKBELFASTAlso was entitled to the 1915 Star, BWM and Victory medals also the KSAWould love to re-unite his medals...However being a realist..it may never happen so am happy with the one link to his past..Enjoy!CheersPaulPS: More to follow!

notned Posted July 17, 2006 Author Posted July 17, 2006 and here we have a couple of Volunteer Long service medalsOne a Victorian and one an Edwardianthe Edwardian medal is named to 2803 C.SJT:W.GARDENER 17/MIDDX:V.R.CIt even still has the silver mounting brooch on it..so must have been a single entitlement.The Victorian one is mint but un-named.

This would have been the heavy fighting at Ben Nevis. So you can add a 1939-45 Star, Burma Star, War Medal, and probably and India Service Medal, since the 1/16th were on the Frontier until August 1942, the last regular Indian battalion to leave.Naik Allah DadIs this him? the casualty??How did you find out??Peter knows!Try the Commonwealth War Graves Commission's website The Debt of HonourFor Indian names, enter the whole name as a surname (spaces between each name). I am not sure how they treated WWII KIAs with regard to medal entitlement. Without references, I cannot remember -- all those mental swiss-cheese holes -- which side the 1/16th went, Pakistan or India.If, as I suspect, his WWII medals would have been issued (if they ever were issued) by Pakistan, then they'd be unnamed as all other Pakistani WWII medals were. Unlike India, Pakistan followed British fashion and issued these awards unnamed. Thios opens up tremendous range for the assembly-line faking of Pakistani "groups": take a Pakistan Medal and IGS 36 pair, stuff in unnamed WWII stars (available by the kilo in Rawalpindi), and SHAZAAM a "group"!If I had my copy of Gaylor here, on the road, with me, I'd be able to detail the service and destination of the 1/16th, though that does not guarantee that Allah Dad did all his regiment did. But Michael has already summarised this for you. Also, I should soon be able to check the casualty register, which often gives more details on KIAs.Nice one.

An Imphal casualty is one to be treasured.Allah Dad was from Jhelum, in the north of Punjab province in Pakistan. As I recall, the 16th Punjab went to Pakistan on partition, so definitely his medals would not have been named. War medals are chronological, so the 1936 IGS would head the group.

I've been pretty much out of Indian since 1987 (although I did buy a Videsh Seva Medal for the Congo to the Gorkhas), but I feel myself being drawn back into it, especially with all those lovely groups that Ed keeps posting.
