In a way, yes.

The Foreign Legion has a veteran's home close to the Aubagne HQ calles Puyloubier. Les Anciens grow and nurse there a variety of white, rosé & red wines, which are quite naturally popular with the various Foreign Legioin Regiments messes. The bottles on your first post probably come from Puyloubier.

Does that answer the question ?
Best regards

I have a very nice bottle of Artillery Port from the Australian Army aging quietly. Got it in about 1995 while we were on an exercise with them. Perhaps someone can advise when I should open it.

Best,

Hugh

Veteran nailed it...

They are indeed two bottles of "Puyloubier"

They are sold in the foyeur of the regiment, but are not the usual "Issue" wine which is usually a bit cheaper.

And don't forget the Sidi Brahim wine, on all the good tables of regiments and battalions from "l'armée d'Afrique", especially the "Chasseurs" !

I think I remember the story of "Bull's Blood" wine - written on the side of the bottle:

A Hungarian castle town was beseiged by a load of Turks. The Hungarian Soldiers inside were served the wine and the best of food to keep up their strength. The Turks, having heard that the defenders were drinking Bull's Blood decided to go home. I think it was the Hungarian's first victory over the Ottoman Empire.

Have you tried any? :wacky: No wonder the Turks ran away.
