Mondvor Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 Gentlemen, there is no cooking stuff in that citation. Maybe it is small misunderstanding. I'll try to explain.Velichko was delivering mortar ammunition (mortar shells) from ordnance depot (artillery shells storage place) to the front lines. In citation was Russian word "БОЕПИТАНИЯ", which probably was confusing because in Russian "ПИТАНИЕ" means "FOOD". But "БОЕПИТАНИЕ" is a special word means "FOOD FOR GUNS" or in other words "SHELLS".So he was a regular crewmember of mortar unit, not a cook

Guest Rick Research Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 Food for guns!!!! Again, many thanks for clearing up obscure meanings which are not found in dictionaries, and farrrrrrrrr beyond anything I ever learned in Russian class in college!!! MY Worst Research Results Ever ALSO involves FOOD: http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=2234
SWE Erik Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 That worn order of glory is great. I really like it! A bit off topic but I can't resist. This is what he would have looked like if he had been a cook.Great research!/Erik
Mondvor Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 (edited) Some more about Russian Rambos I used to have a picture of private Vataman, who killed 8 German soldiers in a close face-to-face combat using previously captured German bazooka as a club. I'll try to find it in my archive. Edited June 19, 2006 by MONDVOR
Bryan Posted June 20, 2006 Posted June 20, 2006 Wow I like those worn orders and especially when researched like this. In few months I'll also research some of my medals!
Mondvor Posted June 21, 2006 Posted June 21, 2006 I found a picture of Vataman who killed 10 enemy soldiers with a panzerfaust (bazooka), using it as a club. Wow, pretty scary
