    1. mhh nice picture. Is it post-1945? I think I see no swastika on the "Third Reich" awards. They then wore again all they had, and like they wanted to - as back in the 20s. :P
    2. It might be my old tired eyes, but the EK on bar no. 1 does look like a standard "KO" to me. No? I'd almost bet it's three piece with magnetic core.
    3. I'm sorry to diagree, but I see here a painted porcelain button hole decoration, probably for Prussian awards from 1864/1866/1870... hard to make them out, but last seems to be the Prussian 1864 medal.
    4. Usually seen are bravery awards by other German states such as a Bavarian military merit cross with swords or Hassian bravery medal. I have one picture of a Bavarian soldier - unfortunately without an EK2 - who wears a Bavarian military merit cross with swords, below a long service medal. That is highly unusual (and for sale )
    5. Mark? The last time I saw that group, it belonged to Stefan. The only Saxon unit that was in Finland were there Karabiner, whose honour chief was the grand duke of Sachsen-Weimar-Eisenach, which explains the combination of Saxon, Weimar and Finnish awards. I used to have a ribbon bar to a Leutnant/Oberleutnant from the very same unit.
    6. Unlikely he missed them out. As said, and based on it being a wide ribbon bar with 20 mm ribbons(?), I think that is the upper row of a two row set, means the lower bar with long service award and the three foreigners is unfortunately missing.
    7. Beau, I think that other Zähringer bar might well belong to these - as an upper row of a two row set. It apparetnly post-dates this bar due to the KVK.
    8. It wasn't me, because when I finished to post on three forums, it was yet deleted. eBay's sometimes doing a good job, even on sunday.
    9. There is a new ebay seller offering great stuff, but at least from some I know: he cannot have it. Stolen pictures from the internet, offered as "his ill father's collection". Some are Claudio's, some other is at "Deutsches Ordensmuseum" in Neuffen, and most are from Thies' and other auctions. And some single medals are from "raritaetensammlerclub". http://shop.ebay.de/myhobbysammlung/m.html :violent:
    10. Just an offtopic addition for Michael, sorry Claudio! Herzog Eduard von Anhalt, also wearing the mentioned Danish decoration in gold:
    11. Ha, so my "royal" guess was pretty right. There's some more thing indicating it... and noone noticed back then. It was not written in the catalogue and noone yet posted, so I think noone here knows. Should we try, just for fun? How about Generalleutnant à la suite Prinz Albert (or Albrecht?) von Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg (1863 - 1948)? I think he qualifies as "royal", seems to have the proper kinship for the awards, was alive in 1934/35... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prince_Albrecht_of_Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Gl%C3%BCcksburg
    12. While he has some great stuff, he indeed deserves his nick name "expensivemaster". :P
    13. Me too, nice set! The actual difference is the precedence of the Austrian medal, indication pre- and post-"Anschluss" 1938! Which makes perfectely sense. Wasn't there more in the lot that belonged to the group, or am I mistaken?
    14. But beware, there are much cast fakes out. I cannot see the difference, but they were even sold by Niemann, so... caution!
    15. I'm having many of these old catalogues for myself, but am to lazy to scan them... so thanks! Or beeing ripped apart... not to uncomman back than. Indicating maybe even a royal... By the way, the Baden bar with Wiederholungsspange is in a German private collection (a SDA member's).
    16. Paul, where did you look - Prussia? As said before, I'm not sure where we have too look. I have more pictures of the set that I could send via e-mail, if you want. If the group is fine, we are looking for a WW1 officer who saw action in WW2 and was alive at least in 1957 due to the Wiederholungsspange on the EK2. Probably unique, but I find many, many with BZ3bX and SMK in the Prussian army.
    17. Sure you're right, we can never be sure, but... why? Mis-matched ribbons are that common I would not even think about this were a Hassian long service award. A hook on the back does neither indicate anything. The bars were made when noone knew what awards would be mounted in this time. If there were no hook, we could be sure the bar is meant for the Turkish award. With a hook, we don't know anything. Summarizing, I tend to think this is rather Turkish than Hassian. We hardly see a Hassian soldiers WW1 medal bar without a Hassian Bravery medal. They were given quite liberately, especially to officers and career soldiers.
    18. Ah, there it is again. Did it come with the mini chain, or were they seperated in the meantime? I'll look for pictures... I did not like it, but don't want to say it's not good - it's just not pretty. Now, where to search? A "Prussian" officer or maybe a Saxon? I haven't by now...
    19. The ribbons for Hassian military long service awards and Ottoman war medal are that close, you will often find them mixed on German medal bars ("that's close enough", the tailor probably said). I cannot see anything here that screams "Hassian" to me - it is rather a Badener's bar - so I think Ottoman fits. The two mentioned ribbons are even that close I cannot remember any difference.
    20. "dem Gefreiten" is the proper dative case for "der Gefreite" or "Gefreiter". German's like Latin with the endings... just different. ;)
    21. If he wasn't, what else should be the Baden ribbon without device? I think if he started the war as an EM and was promoted to Leutnant dR, this could well happen without getting an EM long service award.
    22. Odd placing for a (probably) Baden silver merit medal. Maybe he placed it that low as he indeed was promoted to Lt dR and thus ranked it lower than his Leutnant level awards. Still, a more proper placing would be between the Bavarian and Austrian awards.
    23. And none from the local guys. That's the really odd thing! Here are some pictures of the Kadettenanstalt, on Karlsruhe's city wiki: http://ka.stadtwiki.net/Kadettenanstalt
