    1. Kevin is EXACTLY right here! (yes I know, I'm shouting) This is the problem I have with known copies being made that are too authentic. In a few years the bar then passes hands to either an unsuspecting buyer or to an unscrupulous dealer, and suddenly it becomes discovered as a "real" bar and offered for sale in the market. Either they shouldn't be made at all....or they need to be made with modern materials so that they have easy "tells". Current threading and weaves will show up under black light. If a Copier wants to make medal bars and ribbon bars that will glow like Chernobyl, I'm OK with that.
    2. not by my choice, but politics are on my mind

    3. Chris, That is a delightful document group you have there with an unusual unit and a recipient being so young of age. During wartime, I know that many of the men in para-military units move quickly into the military ranks. The spots vacated by these men are then filled with women or underage boys. The same thing happened in the factories as the men went off to war. Do you think that it what happened here?
    4. Surplus Mubarak awards and medals are now on sale…see Egyptian Defense Forces for pricing and details today!

hahaha...I think what happened is that Chris had to post a value, but actually wanted to list them on a per mag rate. Nevertheless, he got me with good "zinger" for my quip.

    6. Ken calls this one a "private-purchase" and that is very likely as it is not the typical construction found on period 1870 crosses. (see other examples for sale by other dealers) As a private-purchase cross we don't know "when" it was made. Either way, as a unknown construction type, or as later period private-purchase it is considered less desirable by collectors (IMO) Unless it can be obtained at a great price.
    7. Outstanding photo of him and ALL of his awards! I think he was sitting there because he was out of breath from supporting the weight of them I looked at the earlier entries but I didn't find what I was looking for with regard to his career. Does anyone know when/why he received the Japanese RS order? Why is his DSWA medal the steel version?
    8. Hello Valter; I agree with you on both accounts; Its the 1866 Bav. Campaign Cross AND I would rather get a medal (group) than a new camera. Like Paul said, please show us the complete bar when you can.
    9. snow...it can affect your life.

    10. Enough said. The Chairman's assertation is quite correct.

    11. I don't know for sure what Heaven or Hell is like, but I know GMIC rule 6.2 is alive and strongly enforced.

    12. I think you did an outstanding job restoring this medal bar. It looks great! I'm glad I'm not the only one that pays too much for incomplete medal bars. (I guess that is what is keeping me from getting that last award to complete it.)
    13. Undoubtedly the J-series Do217. That was the night-fighter version with the closed canopy in the front and replaced with a cluster of machine guns/cannons.
    14. Hello Gunnar; I know you have been asking about this gent for a very long time (over 6 years ago I think). I did try to look in up in my Imp. German Air Casulaties book and the indexes of some of my Neal O'Connor books but I didn't find him. I'll keep looking, but does anyone else have any other sources for Gunnar? Claudius
    15. Spanferkel; That's a great monologue on this really nice group. And just look at the cluster of #4, #5, #6! All seven kills are spread over four months however in just one TEN minute period he dropped three aircraft. What night fighters were they flying?
    16. You guys are great! Thank you Michael (Great Dane), Thank you Naxos, and Thank you Komtur. It was said before by others, and will be likely said in the future, but I will say it again now. I truly appreciate the people on this forum and their willingness to provide assistance. My sincere regards, Claudius
    17. Greetings; I'm embarrassed to say I can't figure out what this word is. Some of the letters are missing and I can't figure out what it should be. Here is the word in the sentence. Bei einem nächtlichen Bombenflug ve…glückte tödlich der Flugzeugführer You can see how it is important to full understanding because in this one sentence there is a lot of information. thank you,
    18. How about this for a epitaph... Heir ruht in Gott Mein lieber Gaffe, Unser gutter Vater Bruder und Schwager Der Fürstl. Reussische Stallmeister Gustav Würzburg Here rests in God My dear husband, Our good father Brother and brother-in-law The Reuss Prince's Stablemaster Gustav Würzburg born Nov 17, 1860 - died April 24, 1909: age 48 Did he get thrown off a horse? Does anyone find in him in any (peacetime) award lists? Likely from Reuss.
    19. Ok, so "Fürstl." is "Fürstlich", I would understand that as "Prince/royality". So "der Fürstl. Reussische Stallmeister" is "The Reuss Prince's Stablemaster"? Thank you Chris. His name is; G(ustav?) Würzburg born: 17.11.1860 died: 24.4.1909 Does anyone have access to a list that shows his awards, probably peacetime (if any)?
    20. Hello; Can someone translate/describe what this position or rank is? Does anyone have any knowledge of what it really means? Duties? Responsiblities? "der Fürstl. Reussische Stallmeister" Thank you in advance.
    21. Daniel is right on both accounts. Ouch indeed. And I think it is preferable to look for the "cloud with the silver lining" in this situation insofar as it does allow an autopsy of its anatomical construction.
    22. Snowing again...it will be a white Christmas after all. :)

        IrishGunner

I'd smile about a white Christmas too if I weren't still fighting my way across the European continent.

no display of inconsideration was intended. I hope you make it home soon.

Hey, Claudius - no offense taken! Enjoy the snow! Actually, my tribulations have been mild compared to many. Looks like I'll make it home today.

    23. The EK ribbon is for a combantant. I agree with Matt. This guy was in a unit and was a fighter. With the dark blue felt backing, maybe the navy. BTW: Nice bar.
    24. Does anyone have a BZ4K device on a ribbon bar so that they can show us what it looks like?
    25. Does anyone have this book? I want to ask if a certain PGMMC winner is mentioned in the book. Thank you.
