    1. Sorry, this was where I wanted to post my two officer berets. Again, orange was just for parades and dk. grey for everyday use? That was always my common understanding, but perhaps there is better information out there.
    2. Here are two officer paratrooper berets; field grey and orange. If the orange was just for parades, was the field grey for everyday wear? Why not wear the orange every day? Is this a common segregation among paratroopers of all nations?
    3. Hello; I found this thread...Can I ask how you know the Japanese Rising Sun was awarded to him by a visiting delegation from Japan while he was a Hauptmann on the staff of the Field Artillery Shooting School, between 1897 and 1902? (I'm not doubting your evidence, I just want to know, how you know? Thanks Nice bar...but being able to match the bar with the photo
    4. Great facts! Thank you. "Can you tell us what you got. " Oh...sorry, http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=37240
    5. Nice bit of research. Thank you for the map of the battle. Lt. d. R. Hamburger was MIA in Aug 27, 1918. Presumably, he was never found and presumed dead? I realize this sounds a bit blunt. I'm only asking to determine if he survived the war. If so, that leaves Lt.d.R. Frech and Lt.d.R. Rieber as remaining candidates. They at least, both received their WGMMM on the same day...presumably for meritorious bravery during the same action.
    6. This is great! Thank you Naxos. I was looking for IR 126's major engagements and for the list of WGMMM winners. I'm looking up three individuals who won the WGMMM to learn when, and perhaps guess at for what action. I found Paul Frech and Artur Rieber on this list. Both received the Gold on August 31, 1917. The fraktur is hard to read, but this was just after the events at... I can make out "6th Army in Artois"? (pg 370) I can't find Eugen Hamburger on this list. Perhaps just a mistake that he was left off. Thank you for posting the pages!
    7. Nevertheless, as well made kopies and as decorative/example pieces they should bring $100-$200 each. They would look quite handsome sitting on a bookshelf or a costume party.
    8. That would be great. I am looking for their battles and notable engagements. Will the regimental history have names of award winners? WGMMM, EK2, etc.
    9. I could see this being a "class" at a well attended medal's show. A kind of "101" on the basics of recognizing fake medals and bars with a slide show of examples; known fake medals (and why we know they're fake) and medal bar construction (and why this is not correct order/construction). As long as it doesn't teach the would-be fakers out there anything new! :shame:
    10. other side of key
    11. Better photos of Key
    12. Hello, Does anyone have a WWI unit history for IR 126? I just looking for a synopsis of the unit, dates of where they served, battles they were in, notable action, etc. Thank you, Claudius
    13. Yes, quite right. The front may say "repro", but the back with the maker mark is trying to deceive and present itself as original. (It's one thing to go to a costume party dressed as "Marc Anthony", it's another to try to grab a queen and say you are the legitimate ruler of Egypt.) You can get into trouble when you venture outside your area of interest and knowledge in an attempt to get a "deal". A long time ago I bought some Imp. German postage stamps...STAMPS! I don't know what I was thinking, and find out later that they were basically worthless.
    14. Are #3 and #4 both PKOs? I didn't think you could wear both, but if he has two REOs.... Then the Centennial and I believe the Japanese Order of the Sacred Treasure. Does anyone know what medal/orders he ended up with after the war? Was it ever mounted? I can only imagine...with a EK2 on one end and that Japanese Sacred Treasure on the other... nice.
    15. So...you're going to be "Baden with a little Lippe" (there's a pun in there somewhere but I just can't quite dig that nugget out) That's great Doc, I look forward to what you find. I don't believe I will be able to make it out to the OMSA show, but I have a good friend going.
    16. Third ribbon is MK2 on non-combatant ribbon? ...in front of TWO combatant awards. I still don't understand how these guys get both non-combatant and combatant awards. Do some states consider their service to be "combatant" while other consider it non-combatant? Kind of like Dr.s and medics in F-P war. Just checking... but have you put a black-light to the threads on the back?
    17. Hallo Roeland, I can only speak for myself when I say that I am very envious of your pending visit to the new museum. Please inform us of what you find, photos if possible, overall impressions at a minimum. dank u en de goede jacht Claudius
    18. Hear, Hear....collect Prussian. Now, I have for sale this nice little Prussian Crown Order in a box with..... <<<angel on shoulder>>> Give it a rest Claudius, nobody wants that cross of yours. Didn't you pull that offer anyway...
    19. well, you said "any help". Let me see if I understand. The choices are 1) Bavaria & Prussia, 2) Baden or 3) Schaumburg-Lippe. If you go with; 1) Bavaria & Prussia, the two largest states combined would provide the largest block of medals and awards to collect and the most available (for sale). It is a large set to collect. But, you should be able to find them...at least the lower classes. 2) Baden has a lot of medals and some awards to collect. The attractive OZL of note. But there are fewer overall out there to find compared to Bavaria & Prussia. 3) Schaumburg-Lippe is the smallest state of the choices and the smallest of the "set" of awards. Some will be easy to fill, but some of the uber-rare may leave you stuck while you wait for it to be offered for sale. (then what?) Ultimately, why choose. Collect what you like. You said it yourself, you like Red Eagle..then collect Red Eagles. There is even a book dedicated to Red Eagle and Crown Orders. If you declared that you were collecting Baden (or Shaumburg-Lippe for that matter) and then you posted a Red Eagle, no one is going to say "Hey, I thought you collect Baden...what gives?" In my experience, most collectors (and myself) reverse engineer what they collect. Meaning...they buy items they like...recognize a pattern...fine tune their future purchases and sell what doesn't fit to buy the items that do "please" them. It's been said by all collectors in ANY field. "Collect what you like...not what you think will appreciate." Just don't collect Tsingtau groups or flieger guys....THAT'S MY TURF Or, at least let me see what you got.
    20. Photos would be nice (front and back) But from you description, it sounds like they all would be of interest to the right collector. I've noticed that stahlhelm badges are selling, blut und boden badges would find a good home as would the feuerwehr medal. ...so lets see them!
    21. No idea. Tillander is a manufacturer of Finish medals -high end ones. By the poorer quality here, and no pattern on the reverse leads me to believe that this is an unofficial and a localized organization medal. Perhaps not Masonic, but Masonic-like with that cipher on the obverse. I would try emailing a Finish medal dealer for an ID. Good luck.
    22. Hallo Christophe; Can you post this question and bar in the Imp. German area? I think it should get everyone's attention there and maybe solve this little mystery via the gnomes. Oh...by the way, great bar. WGMMM, 2x LS and that gem on the end!
