    1. Hello, Does anyone have a WWI unit history for IR 126? I just looking for a synopsis of the unit, dates of where they served, battles they were in, notable action, etc. Thank you, Claudius
    2. Yes, quite right. The front may say "repro", but the back with the maker mark is trying to deceive and present itself as original. (It's one thing to go to a costume party dressed as "Marc Anthony", it's another to try to grab a queen and say you are the legitimate ruler of Egypt.) You can get into trouble when you venture outside your area of interest and knowledge in an attempt to get a "deal". A long time ago I bought some Imp. German postage stamps...STAMPS! I don't know what I was thinking, and find out later that they were basically worthless.
    3. Are #3 and #4 both PKOs? I didn't think you could wear both, but if he has two REOs.... Then the Centennial and I believe the Japanese Order of the Sacred Treasure. Does anyone know what medal/orders he ended up with after the war? Was it ever mounted? I can only imagine...with a EK2 on one end and that Japanese Sacred Treasure on the other... nice.
    4. So...you're going to be "Baden with a little Lippe" (there's a pun in there somewhere but I just can't quite dig that nugget out) That's great Doc, I look forward to what you find. I don't believe I will be able to make it out to the OMSA show, but I have a good friend going.
    5. Third ribbon is MK2 on non-combatant ribbon? ...in front of TWO combatant awards. I still don't understand how these guys get both non-combatant and combatant awards. Do some states consider their service to be "combatant" while other consider it non-combatant? Kind of like Dr.s and medics in F-P war. Just checking... but have you put a black-light to the threads on the back?
    6. Hallo Roeland, I can only speak for myself when I say that I am very envious of your pending visit to the new museum. Please inform us of what you find, photos if possible, overall impressions at a minimum. dank u en de goede jacht Claudius
    7. Hear, Hear....collect Prussian. Now, I have for sale this nice little Prussian Crown Order in a box with..... <<<angel on shoulder>>> Give it a rest Claudius, nobody wants that cross of yours. Didn't you pull that offer anyway...
    8. well, you said "any help". Let me see if I understand. The choices are 1) Bavaria & Prussia, 2) Baden or 3) Schaumburg-Lippe. If you go with; 1) Bavaria & Prussia, the two largest states combined would provide the largest block of medals and awards to collect and the most available (for sale). It is a large set to collect. But, you should be able to find them...at least the lower classes. 2) Baden has a lot of medals and some awards to collect. The attractive OZL of note. But there are fewer overall out there to find compared to Bavaria & Prussia. 3) Schaumburg-Lippe is the smallest state of the choices and the smallest of the "set" of awards. Some will be easy to fill, but some of the uber-rare may leave you stuck while you wait for it to be offered for sale. (then what?) Ultimately, why choose. Collect what you like. You said it yourself, you like Red Eagle..then collect Red Eagles. There is even a book dedicated to Red Eagle and Crown Orders. If you declared that you were collecting Baden (or Shaumburg-Lippe for that matter) and then you posted a Red Eagle, no one is going to say "Hey, I thought you collect Baden...what gives?" In my experience, most collectors (and myself) reverse engineer what they collect. Meaning...they buy items they like...recognize a pattern...fine tune their future purchases and sell what doesn't fit to buy the items that do "please" them. It's been said by all collectors in ANY field. "Collect what you like...not what you think will appreciate." Just don't collect Tsingtau groups or flieger guys....THAT'S MY TURF Or, at least let me see what you got.
    9. Photos would be nice (front and back) But from you description, it sounds like they all would be of interest to the right collector. I've noticed that stahlhelm badges are selling, blut und boden badges would find a good home as would the feuerwehr medal. ...so lets see them!
    10. No idea. Tillander is a manufacturer of Finish medals -high end ones. By the poorer quality here, and no pattern on the reverse leads me to believe that this is an unofficial and a localized organization medal. Perhaps not Masonic, but Masonic-like with that cipher on the obverse. I would try emailing a Finish medal dealer for an ID. Good luck.
    11. Hallo Christophe; Can you post this question and bar in the Imp. German area? I think it should get everyone's attention there and maybe solve this little mystery via the gnomes. Oh...by the way, great bar. WGMMM, 2x LS and that gem on the end!
    12. Hello TerryG; I have three items that I would like translating. They all belonged to the same person and I'm hoping that combined they will present a clearer portrait of the recipient. The first is the TH document. Would like to "read" the name that is at the top and if the body copy is any different from the translated doc above. The second is the handle on a key??? At least that was what I was told. The lower portion is broken off. I'm hoping that the cast inscription on the obverse and the reverse will reveal what this object is and what it was used for. The scan is bit poor, but my EPSON scanner was confused by the 3D item. The third is an unofficial Turkish medal. I don't know if my gentleman was "awarded" this or if it something he picked up on his "travels". At any rate, he didn't have it put on his medal bar with his other Turkish awards. Please let me know the price to translate. And we'll have to figure out a way for me to get payment to you -that will be the tricky part. Thank you, Claudius
    13. Korrekt. A corporal in charge of eight men. At the Battle of Spichern they broken into the open and attacked homesteads that laid along a main road leading to the border. After a fight to capture the buildings from the enemy, the French, in contrast to their defensive tact they exhibited earlier that day, took the offensive to regain the lost buildings. Firing with their Chassepot rifles that had over twice the range of the German's Needle guns, Blume's men and the other seven companies inside had to endure the pounding without effective response. Twice the French infantry assaulted the homesteads and twice they were fought off. Afternoon turned to evening. From out of the setting sun, the French Calvary charged from down the west road and plowed into the Hanoverian's position. They were repelled. This allowed additional German units to move through the farm houses and onto the slopes that flanked the French's fortified and elevated position on the Heights. Other units went west and fought into the nearby village of Sterling and a forge's slag heaps. In the twilight the battle was over as the French surrendered the field. (this is the abbr. version from my memory) Does #2965 on the list mean anything? Does the listing have any other details? Anything...?
    14. I'm sorry...this link is not working for me. Can Glen and his EK2 winner's list be accessed another way?
    15. ---stand-by--- i should have something for your friend.....
    16. This joke is so far over my head it has an air traffic controller involved. I think a lot of us could benefit if those in-the-know would get out the "paper and crayons".
