    1. Hi, nope, in a quieter section in the Vogesen... I think from rain and lack of movement the metal pins would rust off so they just sewed them to the uniform ;-)
    2. This was a nice little one, long gone... The Panzer assault badge was signed by Peiper as Regt commander...
    3. Just some doo-dads, the top ones were for one man, the bottom bar, neat little thing, I recieved today...
    4. Fantastic frames!!! If you have time over xmas, could you do then singley, back and front? :-)
    5. Sounds good, i dont have many, but I will look see what I have... Maybe we can join the threadfs that have them?
    6. I bought a WW1 group from Weitze once, pretty decent group, I would never have split it, but the price was high because of a Promotion with Blomberg signature. I said to KB, "noone gives 2 tids about the guy", he agreed, and we agreed the group should not be split, but he gave me an ok discount as we agreed that the Blomberg signature was a millstone around the groups neck. Do we have a Promo doc thread??
    7. Possible, Like I said, I went to Hüsken at a show to have him look at it (was 50/50 on the ek doc) and he traded me cash for it. I was happy for the money, but sorry to loose such a great group.... now in retrospect, a very mean "Whew!" It does however make me think... We often accuse dealers of selling fakes, but in this case he must really have believed, because he paid good money for it... Promo docs are always just fluff for me ;.-)
    8. To be a good yank, so many and so bleached you can barely close your mouth... to be a good Brit or Euro, just a couple in the front and a working set of molars on one side in the back. For South Africans and other colonials, depends on your dental plan... :-)
    9. I consider myself a Medium old timer... But I honestly believe that you need both. There are many, many, many modern fakes that have the feel, the wear and with just gut feeling will cost you your shirt. In 1970, or 1980 you could use (as I used to hear all the time) "hmmmm... fantastic quality, wear, patina... fakers cannot do that... this Knights Cross is REAL!" But for the last 10 years or so... thats the best way to waste EUR10 000. There are cloth and uniform items out there that are very RIGHT, in every detail... but are not. I know a tailor who makes stuff from old greatcoats for his own use... I defy anyone to know they are not "right" without him telling them. To rely exclusively on "gut feeling" or to rely exclusively on Die flaws, weights and measurement... I would prefer to do both... using just one is going into battle one armed.... As far as "big names" go... lets say for arguments sake you say my wound badge is fake, should I automatically discount it because you are a big name? Or does this just concern ones you are, or are not on speaking terms with? :-) Best Chris
    10. Another thing I remember reading..... By 1918 the Sturmbataillon 3 had taken over as the main tactical innovaters, and Sturmbataillon Rohr Nr.5 was more into technical innovation... Is that true? How was it quantified?
    11. Hi, I read the following sentence about ski troops.... The green embroidered 'S' on collar inspired the nickname 'snake hunters'. Was this nickname period, or a collectors jargon?
    12. Hi, is it possible to determine who it was? He must have has a career of note? Best Chris
    13. Can anyone identify anything after the wounf medal?
    14. Did they always have the collar patch? Thje one I am buying has none, but it seems an odd thing to remove? Or they removed them during the war to fit the same style as the Feldgrau tunics being worn? Best Chris
    15. The problem with that is... when someone scans it and sells it as a PDF... it is no longer cheap at the price ;-)
    16. I really think we underestimate how much "old clothing" was worn. I dont think in the war that a lot of people hung clothes up for the duration. As clothes were "worn out" before replaced, and I have photos of men in Ersatz battalions using prewar Blue tunics with large patches on the shoulders where they were worn through, I am guessing it was probably the exception to "retire" clothing before the end of the war. I do have a few "closet stuffers" from men killed in the war, but assume if he had a brother or cousin in the army these would probably have had a good chance of being used again. This especially true for lower ranks and lower ranking officers. Best Chris
    17. Hi, the latest french book on Rohr has the full set I think. I have unfortunately never seen one for sale :-(
    18. That is nice. A good citation usually (for me) makes an award doc XXX times more valuable. Unfortunately not a lot of people think that way and as a result prices are mostly not adjusted accordingly. I once saw a gebirgsjaeger EK2 doc (I think for Kreta) with the citation typed on the back of the doc. That was pretty cool as well. bet Chris
