    1. Hmmmmm.... Wren has many details nailed.... but most studies tend to agree he never served in the legion.... he probably knew a few people who did....
    2. Hi, The problem that I see is that the last signature is not military, so no rank lists will help. He belonged to the Jewish Cultural community in Vienna, maybe coming to a horrible end in the following years. It is interesting that Jews were excluded from military service "In peacetime" ......
    3. Hi, no info, but that's OK. I was looking for some 100% one lookers, I have the GGF's medals and awards, but there was no insignia to round out the display other than a Helmet plate I had bought... so this is perfect!
    4. http://www.kaiserscross.com/40312/617301.html A sad little group, I am glad to have given it a home....

    7. I do not think it is French... seems more of the British influence?
    8. That is interesting, you can see from the positioning of the Sept that they have simply removed the 17 from the die! I assume mine were proofs, but by the time they went into production they had removed the 17?
    9. Here is an interesting set, the rough stamped one... then the cropped and silvered one before the pin was added.... just needs one with the pin to finish the set....
    10. This is just a WAG, but I would go with 100% navy. The Anchor is often used for Colonial troops, but there is nothing that suggests an infantry or ground troops connection. The Trident makes it look even more navy like. Unfortunately there is no unit designation, but the French do not only have Regimental badges or official ones. There are also local ones, commemorative ones, etc. etc....
    11. beautiful piece! I think these are French Artillery swords, also used by the USA..... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Model_1832_foot_artillery_sword
    12. HI, the photos are pretty bad, could you post better ones? This is worth a look.... http://www.medalnet.net/Godet_Pour_le_Merite_de.htm
    13. Hi, he was in the zone and took part, but you would need the regt history to see what the units active role was. There must be further entries for him, I doubt this is where his war ended....
    14. Maybe some chemical reaction? I am sure it is not a period green ribbon...
    15. Hi Gilles, the rings have a deep incuse relief stamp of the ILR in an oval on the back. Can you post your ring? Thanks Chris
