    1. I was lucky enough to get the Militaerpass, shooting book, WW2 Wehrpass 8No active service), and his EK2 doc. No EK1 doc was there...
    2. A silly question.... was the Starburst a specially created one, or was it one that was already in use... by that I mean, did the maker say "Schmidt, go create a brand new starburst and put an EK on it..." or did he say "Schmidt, go take one of those starbursts we are using for the Argentinian cattle raisers honour star and stick an EK1 on it....." Did they start from scratch... or did they alreay have the parts to throw together....
    3. Hi, I agree the post 39 WW1 crosses in 44mm "LDO size" are a bit bigger than regular WW1 crosses.... but he mentioned a 48mm one in RK size.
    4. One day baby... one day...... According to the seller the Besitzzeugnis has many notes on the back, awarded from a W?rt. Div, but lots of notes made on it by various authorities who had to approve it for him to be allowwed to wear it.
    5. While fishing for pics of EKs for the Imperial EK book project a collector told me he can send me pics of his 48mm ?bergrosse EK2...... Nothing unusual you say... they come up from time to time..... maybe... but he is talking WW1 ?bergrosse !!!!!!! Has anyone seen anything like this before ??
    6. I am happy to say the seller has agreed to sell me the missing doc, thereby completing the set. he has a couple of the medals but they are not up for grabs.... At least the docs are complete now....
    7. Well, according to allied Intel Reports, 90% of his divisions infantry was wiped out in a few months fighting on the dead man and hill 304. His battle page is nothing short of astounding. Dead man, Cumiers, Caurettes heights, Somme, Wytschaete bend, messines, Kaiserschlacht, Kemmel ......... A lucky survivor.....
    8. From his WW2 Werpass photo... not a very funny kinda guy. From his WW1 Pass... a tough as nails little guy. Challenge to the forum... help he read this, promotion to Unteroffizier for .... vor dem Feind???? Does not look like Tapferkeit?
    9. I am very, very happy. I will be calling the seller to see if I can get the Ritter2x document today. I bought the regt history, but it is not very detailed. i guess I am going to have to consider going down to the Bavarian archives at some stage with a list of my bavarian documents. Why do the Mosers all seem to have W?rtemburg medals?
    10. The II. Batl. had lost many men in the fighting the weeks before. At the time when he won the EK2 they were resting in the second line and at the same time formed 16 groups of "carriers" to take stuff forward to the men of the I. and III. Batln's. All trips were done through the heaviest artillery fire and at great risk. A document with Fort Douaumont mentioned on it is pretty much the holy grail of researchable EK docs.
    11. I wish I knew when he joined the Regt :-( Pity there are no ealrier documents to help track his career. The seller still has a couple of things from him including another document, I will be calling him in the morning to beg it off him in trade.
    12. The Price !!! and call them SS-Panzer leather duds... and the price is even more different
    13. And the EK2 just KILLS me.......... I will be able to follow this one step by step in Verdun at the end of the month, to within a few mwters of the actual trail he was on....
    14. OK, I have over 400 EK docs.... about 6-7 have a specific action mentioned (I mena more precise than just the name of a battle)... The EK1 in this group has a very specific action mentioned.....
    15. EK docs to follow.........................................................................
    16. Interesting Promotion document. I am sure Rick will find the wording interesting, probably Glenn as well.... and the altered stamp...
    17. Your man was in the 12th Bavarian Inf. Regt. of the 2nd bavarian Division.... a really well rated assault division....
    18. I bought my dream group on Ebay, contacted the seller and asked if he had anything else from the man.... and whammo... this is what he kept back from the auction.... :-(
    19. But what is this? Is it rare? What does it cost and how does it look? Is that enough questions Ritterkreuz II Kl. ( Friedrichsorden) von W?rttemberg im Etui mit Urkunde
    20. Hi This was mine. I think/thought it has obviously "been there" but from the reaction on the auction thread it seems that "there" may not actually be the "there" that I am supposing. I am all ears on this. If I remember correctly t came from a rather woolly dealer in Toronto in the early 90's, but he was not known for having a lot of good stuff...
    21. I would not be sooooooo sure. There are many, many examples of what the British would call "Immediate awards" ie. then and there for an action, or soon after.... and there are many examples of awards for accumulative actions. Most post war ones seem to have been for accumulative actions over a longer period. I have a number of post war awards where the division fought extremely heavily 1916-17 and first couple of months in 1918... then twiddeled its thumbs for the next half a year (plenty of time to make an award then) and the guy finally getting his award long after the war for no specific action, but because of an accumulation of good service from throughout the war. Damned nice group it is :-)
