    4. Hi Joe, nice! I just saw the G-Grandfather was only in the 101 in 1918 so i doubt he ever wore anything like this. Still... I must admit.. having been rather jaded over the last few years this haube is one of the small things that really excites me.. :-)
    5. S'funny... I really dont associate Armoured trains with WW2... Were they in regular use?
    6. As I have finally pulled a 2nd Jäger batln jacket into the collection (but a prewar one, not field grey) I was wondering if anyone had any extra ideas on this... i.e. who could have worn it? Any evidence of WW1 Jäger Colonels? Thanks Chris
    7. The above postcard was on Ebay in color some time ago.... did any of our members get it by any chance? Thanks Chris

    9. The KS98 private purchase is extremely, etremely close to the issue one inevery respect, quality included... except the groove a a fraction of a MM smaller... you cant see it with the eye, unless the two are together. I can only think it was done on purpose, maybe only issue bayonets for issue rifles...
    10. Thanks Speedy!!! Trying more for the spirit/meaning of the netries as opposed to a 1:1 translation... anyone see anything wrong with the following? 1st of January 1916 The first night of the New Year. Due to the situation and the cold I was not able to sleep well. I thought to myself how different this was to the new year one year ago. For my family, especially my dear wife it must have been a difference like day and night. But getting up and getting dressed was much faster this year. Due to the situation I had slept fully clothed including boots and spurs. There had been no chance to wash. A soldier accepts such things and is simply happy to still be alive. At 07:30 the company assembled and was tasked with shoveling/bailing out the trenches up to the firing positions. This was necessary to avoid the flooding of the newly dug bunkers. A nice way to start the year, but it was OK, it was really OK, it was absolutely OK. It was a labour of love. The work was really wet, we were happy when the mud and water did not flow into our boots. part 2 to follow tonight...
    11. Would actually be a nice looking award if they had shown more imagination with that green and white centre...
    12. Want to see what happened here in August 1914..... http://www.kaiserscross.com/152301.html
    13. Could it have been blue, from a batch of funnily dyed cloth?
    14. OK, here is the deal.... I recently bought a fantastic little group of diaries... 5 small diaries to an officer of the IR87, dating from January 1916-April 1916.... The IR87 was involved in the initial attacks going through the Bois des Caures where Driant and his light Infantry gained legendary status slowing down the German advance. Now... I can read the diaries, but get stuck quite often due to the handwriting... So I thought I would try the following... A group project... I will post the pages, and we can read the diary together... an extremely interesting historical document... Those who can read the German can type up the German Text, and anyone who knows German can pitch in with the translation... I hope it will be interesting, these are historical diaries! "War Diary, Started on 1st of January 1916"
    15. Googling the regiment, the 3 helmets I found to the 101 all had a pole on top with what looks like black horse hair hanging down... and idea of what that could be? Thanks Chris
