It was quite more common than we think. Was reading an account where a man was buried, then dug out 3 times in a day. All you needed was the entrance of a bunker to collapse, or a shell to collapse the side of a trench wall. I think I have 2-3 death cards to men buried alive. I assume a portion of the men "missing" were probably buried alive by shell fire. best Chris

EK 1914 The simple WW1 EK2...
Chris Boonzaier replied to Chris Boonzaier's topic in Germany: All Eras: The Iron Cross
I have a weakness for other ranks with the EK1 pic (Yup, I know its an EK2 thread!!) His name is Hinrich Büsing... no idea of the unit. Wish I knew what the 2nd ribbon was.... in a group photo they all have this 2 ribbon combination... maybe Hessen? -
EK 1914 EK2 1914 (one piece)
Chris Boonzaier replied to barzda's topic in Germany: All Eras: The Iron Cross
I think it LOOKS OK...but if I was to buy it I would like to see it first. I think the in hand nspection (What kind of metal, weight, basically "the feel") are best for pieces like this. Best Chris -
Ok, this is primary source info, so take it for what it is... interprate what you will.... An added note... low numbers may mean a unit is rarer than another, but it does not mean it is automatically more desirable.... Although in the Case of the S.A. Sharpshooters... I would buy em! :-) on a couple of units i have subtracted 1 or 2 men of the roll, just so I can see where it is from if it turns up elsewhere... Hmmm... before this goes a step further, I would suggest you post a clear scan of your Personalausweiss. This is not an unknown occurrence on online forums and it is essential to establish clear credentials before hand. If you are his son, I assume you are German, and Konvolut is spelt with a "K" and a Soldbook is actually a "Soldbuch"? Anyway, I would suggest establishing proof of who you say you are, then continuing this discussion by Email with Richard. This is not an issue for debate and opinion on the forum, it is an issue to be resolved between both of you. Best Chris
