    1. A very interesting medal indeed! Best Chris
    2. An interesting article indeed. It was one of the ground breakers. The folks today who look back at it and say it was junk... would have to say the wright brothers airplane was junk as well... It was simply the best they had to offer at the time.
    3. Hi Vet, Bay State is a good guy, he has one in silver here... http://www.baystatemilitaria.com/WWII/WWIIMetalInsignia.htm Best Chris
    4. Indeed... I remember in Desert Storm, we were told that anything coming from a certain direction were baddies... In the early morning a burst of 12.7mm was fired at an approaching gazelle helicopter, as was in the Iraqi weapons hand book... but this one was flown by our own French helicopter recon... Red faces all around, but no problem as nothing was hit.
    5. But the thin line upper left to lower right just in front of the M makes it look like a W
    6. Nice piece to have! Lucky you! :-) Thats what makes collecting interesting.
    7. The Nurses "convoyeuse de l'air" are breveted by the airforce and are there for medical flights repatriating wounded by air. they are state diplomed nurses, breveted by the air force and have officers rank.
    8. Id say that is the rule in about 80% of the cases. However... I have a small circle of friends who occasionally pull things out of the woodwork and within that small circle trust is the name of the game. When one of them says to me "I got this from the widow of XXX" I know he is not BSing... if I had heard it from 8 other guys I may not. I think it is like that all over in life, you need to know who to trust. I once had the Combined Pilot Observer badge to Obstlt Heinz von Holleben. He was commander of KG 10´0, the worlds first pathfinder bomber unit. No idea how many missions he flew over London in the battle of britain... full of history... I tried to pass the story on along with the badge, but the guy did not seem that interested.... I suppose it is just another one in a drawer collected according to makers mark now.... Sometimes the story is what makes the badge....
    9. Saw something unusual on ebay today... These come in gold and silver. Gold is a pilot, silver I guess for Nurse. French red cross flight crew wings, I think indochina epoch....
    10. Its like that drawing where you see the naked girl then old womans face, depending on how you focus. I saw 211 then XX then W
    11. You sure its an "M" ? Everytime I look at it I see something different...
    12. 2 things... 1) What is a Gold "Wintered Over" bar 2) ask if she is ober 25... if so I will send her a nice reply as well :-)
    13. That looks to be a real treat! I dont know how this could be authenticated beynd any doubts... but the story seems to be believable if it can be confirmed as a vet pick up. I am unaware of any role of members being availible... if one was to turn up with that name on i think it would be a home run....
    14. Hi, The Iraqis had South African G5s delivered to them in the 1980s. Best Chris
    15. From what I see, the Bavarian Jäger had black belts, not brown...
    16. OK..... its not as nice as a Fieldgrey jacket.... but here, just arriving today.... is a 2nd Bavarian Jäger battalion tunic. Based on some photos seen, the men in the Ersatz battalion up until 1916 were still wearing these during training... and Jägers back home on leave had them on as well. I put the medals on as I have them in a Photo of a man wearing the blue jacket on leave. This is THE non-fieldgrey jacket I need. I usually dont like them at all.
    17. Well, at least we know they are original.... If they were off the coast of latvia they may have been fake...... :-)
    18. Hi, 3 thoughts... 3Years means probably a deserter. Should be a NATO or UN medal there Medals should be mounted after being issued. They look like this just on the day they are awarded. The Commemo is an early one. there were few variations back before they standardised them. I like these as oppoed to the ball and ring ones. Best Chris
    19. I may be mistaken, but he cannot have been THAT young? I think the Ex-Jugo may have been mid 90s? Thats when I got mine and I am no longer young :-( maybe someone can correct me on that?
    20. I have no idea about the 3, but in general this piece just does not "right". There is a host of things so small you cant really put your finger on, but I would pass it up and buy a different one.
    21. Hi, here is a funny one.... he seems to have an officers Feldzeichen on the helmet. It was on ebay as a bavarian Jäger, but from the collar badges I think not. Must be Schneeschu bstln?
    22. What a nice group!!!! I used to have a flak group with a guy who had the erdkampfabzeichen and the army Allgemeine Sturmabzeichen... Am sorry to have sold it :-(
