    1. From my original question.... when a man is listed as a "Hoboist" on his EK doc.... are we speaking about a flute player or any musician? And I guess the EK would be for acting as a strecher bearer? I to have an EK doc to a "Feldwebel Hoboist" and am sure that I have read a few times that when push came to shove the Tubas were packed away and the Musicians joined the infirmary as bearers.
    2. Some nice stuff.... any problems bringing it home? I heard they once closed the channel tunnel because a collecter had a bomb in his car....
    3. Nope... but one word comes to find........ Freudian....
    4. Good stuff, thanks Rick... Will trawl the regt history of the 20th and look for him. best Chris
    5. Sooooo.... are you a happy camper ????
    6. I spoke to a German collector today who says each parachute had a booklet and control card, records kept of age, use, repairs etc. I am betting this was for that.
    7. Hi, I have the von schwerin book on CD, does anyone know of any other books out there that deal with SB Rohr? Thanks Chris
    8. Agreed, it is often forgotten that Dachau is not "just" the name of a camp. It is a suburb in which the Camp was in. There were seperate weapons schools, training camps, etc. etc. that had nothing to do with KZs. This helmet falls in as a Creme de la Creme item.... i dont collect SS... but would looooove to have this.
    9. Who says the SS were not a bunch of sentimental old softies !!
    10. I saw about 20-30 of these around.... and we were not really travelling in the bombed out areas. Apparently on the plain of Jars there are tons and tons of these around.
    11. Major Richard Sartor was the Division Adj. for the 15 Bav Inf Div towards the end of the war. In 1935 he retired as Oberregierungsrad after 40 years of Service.... More I have not been able to find. Has anyone else got an idea about further WW1 Service?
    12. Thanks for the links and info guys. All the best Chris
    13. Since the beginning of time...man has dreamt of flight.......
    14. Possible, but I would assume this will never be an award you could confirm, unless you find his Wehrpass. Technically it would be an unofficial award if it turned out Herr did it on his own initiative. It may be an interesting topic on its own, who was allowed to award what at which level.
    15. For anyone else I would say "two thumbs up".. but after the dirty video he emailed me, I think he may take that to literally... I will limit myself to "A good guy!",

    16. .... then it is paper aeroplane folding time ;-)
    17. But would a container like this actually be at the drop zone? Units etc could probably be stencilled onto the container, but the label seems to point at something that changes? Maybe checks, controls, condition etc. etc. ?
    18. Ahhhh.... but he is the cutting edge of policing... he is not a Plod... he is CID !
    19. A good question indeed... I would say 100 years or older at a guess. I need to research a bit more...
    20. Same way Christopher Walken smuggled Bruce Willises dads watch home.... Just kidding.... if you can bring an MG08 home.... this be a piece of cake.... ;-)
    21. Some nice variations indeed!!!! I just wish the theory would die that these were dropped over german lines ..........
    22. I have a WW1 biography, one of those that is written in novel form with names changed (I assume). From what I can see, the unit of the man was refered to as Regiment "Altmark" (his name for it I assume) and in 1914 or 15 it was supposedly commanded by oberstleutnant von busche, the regiments adj. named Cortez. Any idea od the regt number?
    23. Damnation.... my 0.75c wasted !!!! But are you sure? the botton one is aluminium, the top one heavier brass.
    24. Agreed, local antique dealers are seldom a good barrometer. Any idea if there is a way to get ribbom for these?
    25. I assume the recipients must have been prime Khmer Rouge victim class....
