    1. Interesting thread and rather superb examples Gentlemen. The initial bar.. Anyone want to venture a guess as to nationality? A rather perplexing combination!!?
    2. Concur with Greg. Nice, original cross at a rather unexpected and sweet price!
    3. Pretty special set Chris. I've gone back through all my archive fotos and cannot find a GWB either. Lots of Black, some Silber.... no gold.
    4. Yes, but if you can identify when Mongolia made the changes in its' flag, wouldn't that tell us an approximate era for each style of badge?
    5. I was thinking about this.... I believe we simply have 2 very different eras for each example. The one on the right being the (much) earlier piece..... Notice the differences in the lettering/script on the flags. As with all of the deputy badges from each republic. The shape of the flag, the pole and the image of the flag itself varied greatly over time...
    6. he's making this rather personal for me.... I am deeply offended by this: http://cgi.ebay.de/SACHSEN-grosse-Ordenssp...1QQcmdZViewItem
    7. The Neal O'Conner series on Aviation Awards is pretty good. Prussian/Bavarian editions will set you back some change, but have some nice photos of original badges. Niemann's Price guide has some excellent B&W photos of many different aviation badges. Also, a good beginning reference may be found here: http://www.medalnet.net/pandis.htm Note the credits.... ;>)
    8. There's a loose Austrian Maria-Theresa that is actually shown in one photo, possibly in the printed catalogue, mounted/pinned in front of this bar on a tunic. Is it possible we have an Austrian here masquerading as something else? I have not seen a photo of the reverse....
    9. Now, for me, the bar does not make sense.... but the first & last pieces may be of interest.
    10. There are two very distinct styles. One with very little "mirror relief" to the reverse, one with much. There is some dissension as to acceptance of each example/style. In addition, they are currently reproduced in both styles. Again, caution is recommended. I would recommend finding an example of the second type I have shown as being the more accepted, 'textbook' style of badge.
    11. Amazingly beautiful piece.. I think "Rarest of The Rare" might just be an understatement here.... amazing. Thanks for sharing this one!!
    12. Well, my 2 cents is while the quality is certainly different... other aspects conform. Since these were made over an extended period of time, could this simply be a variation? That coal-black patina is not something you'll see achieved artificially in my experience with silver....
    13. Nope... it's on the right ribbon... BUT! How often do you actually SEE one??? Hmmmmm?? One of the rarest of the prussian awards. A no-swords Hohenzollern is very special...
