    1. Interesting that he kept a "pure Prussian" mounting, with even the combat awards from other states mounted at the back of the bar! Very nice one!
    2. It does always seem to be shame when these get chipped up just from being mounted over the years. A common occurance with bars, unfortunately. It doesn't detract from the beauty and appreciation for me though! Nice Bar!
    3. Christophe.. it looks like the medals were never even mounted on the bar! Are there hooks tucked underneath the wrapped ribbons? Should be easy enough to get originals to restore it. The only real question would be what went on the Austrian "war" ribbon?? Any evidence of medals having been sewn-in once upon a time?
    4. Just doesn't seem fair, does it? Survive the war and if your lucky, you get an EK2
    5. Don't know either! But the photo, it looked blue on the edges. I think your case is fine.
    6. Very nice veteran's piece. One I have not seen before! You'll be making my buddy Mike from California drool over this one!!
    7. And the issue badge. Note the common features shared by both types. The issue badge is actually maker marked to Juncker. The PP badge bears only the crescent moon and 800 silber marks
    8. OK! Previous one was a Private-Purchase Badge, most certainly by Juncker. Here's a nice scan of the issue badge, as distributed in 1918 only!
    9. Hi Mike, When I look at these, I always assumed that the plate/pin like that was because it was repaired. If not, that's cool. But note that the two crosses are basicly identical other than the 2 features I mentioned previously. Now, with yours, there's 3 with the same looking catch, but only two with similar hinge barrel and pin. But comparing your cross to the ones Christophe culled from the web.... I see huge differences in the edges and openings???? So, do we have 3 makers, one maker? Or something else? I have nothing but photos to work from here. I've never been able to find anything other than the 2. kl. cross myself.
    10. Without seeing the fronts, I see #7 & #8 as same maker, different repairs on each hinge. Note the cut-outs and the catch. The only visible difference is the length of the hinge barrel and the pin. The rest looks the same to me? PS: Mike! Welcome aboard!
    11. Hey Jason, that should be easy. EK2 and Baden General decoration.. preferably a silver one, not the zinky one!
    12. One thing to consider... the MOSH had a commander grade, (2 grades actually) as well as a grand cross........ Immelmann was the only Junior Officer to receive both the Kommander & RK grades... I believe his commander SH came after his PLM! So, you could probably still use the MOSH, but narrow the field a bit to Commander Grade....... Just to brighten things up a bit, here's a Commander's Cross made by Osang of Dresden.... (destroyed in WW2 bombings of Dresden)
    13. Did that certificate say "stifter", or "stinker".... ???????????
    14. Beautiful grouping Christophe! Very nice to see! (especilly the photo of him wearing the tabs and boards!)
    15. Hi, it looks cast, as opposed to struck/minted/coined. But I am not aware of anyone making fakes of this cross.
    16. Nope, now your into the realm of pure speculation, with no way to ascertain and/or back up any idea. Unless of course you write to the Bavarian Archives and actually manage to get a copy of his "jacket"..... I suggest a trip in person as being your highest probability of success!! PS: If you do decide to go at some point (or anybody else for that matter!) PLEASE let me know.... I have several names I need researched too!
    17. John... the lapel bow with the double mini Luftwaffe eagles is outstanding! First time I've seen the minis mounted like that!
    18. Hi Wayne, I do not think there was any such thought process. "Marking" as you call it in your post was not an indication of some "future plan", but a reward for services rendered. When The NSDAP came to power in the 1930's, having received such awards was not indicative of anything other than past military service and/or bravery. What was more important to the NSDAP was political adherence and reliability. A significant number of highly decorated individuals from WW1 were ignored, censured or executed based upon political disagreement or "racial impurities"... including at least one recipient of the PLM. I am not sure I understand the question and/or preposition at hand? You open with a "I'm looking for equivalents" statement. Equivalents of what? Your listing of "highest military decoration" by the main kingdoms (Excluding Baden, a Duchy) is correct. The awards are all of your criteria... Excluding the WOKwX, which was not the highest military award, it's a "House Order" with swords attached. But again, these were not "markings" of some future plan.... Not really sure what your after here.
