    1. Beautiful waffenrock to an unusual unit. Excellent state of preservation as well!
    2. The Saxon Lifesaving medal is very hard to find.... but good luck trying to find the correct ribbon!!
    3. By far, one of the nicest displays I've seen in a very long time. The Ordensspange is especially nice with a mounted W?rttemberg Order of The Crown w. Swords. An exceptionally rare piece.
    4. Good points Ed, supply & demand will continue to rule the marketplace. It certainly is interesting to watch "market forces" at play... But you are also quite correct... that's probably the only chance I'll ever have to even see something of that significance!
    5. Very interesting David...... first time I've heard that with respects to the ribbon being used for both............ Very interesting. Thanks.
    6. So what are you saying.......... "......One size fits all?" That's right up there with "The check is in the mail" and "Of course I'll still respect you.........."
    7. Hi Jim, a fair price indeed as usually anything of this size on eBay brings quite a bit more than that price. The content seems irrelevent for eBay buyers..... in the US. "Size matters"
    8. And how pray tell did he know this????? because the shape of the eagle, the wings and the shield.......
    9. I noticed that too.... the initial posting what appeared to be a rank button is nothing more than an impression....... would that lend credence to this actually being a Friekorps era phorto?
    10. Hi Gerd, a gilt sevice would be indicitive of the 40-year cross. Swords on that ribbon I would usually suspect it to be an RK. But looking at the bar with no other awards for WW1 beyond an EK2/Honor Cross that possibility (the medal) does exist. The bars look fine to me.
    11. The depot system as you have stated above cannot be taken as a hard and fast rule. I have a Milit?r-Pass here right now that the gefreiter entered in an Infantry unit, saw extensive action with same then transferred into an aviation unit where he spent the rest of the war. When mustered out, he was processed and stamped out as the aviation unit, not the regimental depot for the infantry unit.....
    12. Well, I won't be spending that kind of money on anything, anytime soon. But I suppose if I had "unlimited resources"........... and was bored......... and thought "I need it"........... who knows. Frankly, even if the price dropped to a more reasonable 15K I can think of a zillion other things I'd spend it on than either one of these........ Yes the pieces of extreme historical significance... but just like an RK of the '39EK....
    13. The only GBM marked for content is the 8K one, marked 333 on the ?se. The 14K & 22K ones (as is often the case with real gold orders, Prussian decree be damned) you will find NO maker mark, NO content mark for gold. yet again, another situation that flys in the face of........ think "crowns"
    14. Greetings Solomon, fantastic medal and document. I will however caution other members that this medal is extremely heavily faked. This one looks spot-on so a good example to keep as a point of reference!
    15. My vote would be for the BMVK3 and that looks like a NCO Rank button on the collar...
    16. Nice ORB with a significant story behind it. I really enjoy these early awards of the ORB, one really had to perform significant feats to earn one!!
    17. Hi Chuck, I've had one very good experience with this guy. Everything was exactly as it seemed to be and then some. I too passed on many of the badges he's tried to sell. Some on price, but most on "Gee, I dunno..." But based on the positive experience, I figured the other stuff was worth a look. I rather suspect someone has pillaged a museum to be point blank honest, but that is pure speculation on my part. He's in Boston, somewhat local to me. If you want it, go for it! I have no serious 'need" for it at all, just thought it was pretty darn nice and well into the "obscurity' thing that always appeals to me! ;>)
    18. Reverse is too blurry for me to tell anything, but irrespective of how it appears, I would still have a hard time swallowing the combination/condition when there's literally yards and yards of leftover ribbon stock floating all over the world now. This stuff appeared in "job lots" about 3 years ago and certain people have been ever so busy with it since. Currently in Germany, I've been offered about 300 blank bars, all old/real pieces.... ranging from 3's to 8's. I have of course refused them all, but they never have trouble finding someone to buy the stuff.... a very sad state of affairs. It's hard for me to accept that this fellow received to 'foreign" awards and only an EK2. Note there's no service device on the long service ribbon. Unusual at best. Not impossible, but unusual. If the thing looked anything other than brand-spanking new I would still be suspicious, but I like to play it safe.
