And it's thanks to the likes of this young man and what he gave, we have what we have today. Sergeant Peter Francis Snape: 78 Sqdn, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve who was killed on the, 30th July 1943 over Hamburg on a second wave of the raids that night. He flew in Halifaxes and was only 22 years old. -

I've a couple of East German medals in the collection where there's some mistake in the ribbon useage, this one could be an end of a role leader marker perhaps or just a unobserved faulty ribbon applied....it must have been a mundane job. It's an odd one, theres the correct style next to it, note the addition of the red line ?? Has anyone seen the likes before ? Kr Marcus

Thanks Kevin that will be very handy !

Kevin, Please do post the Border Guards medal !!! Arh the 17 July St market, that still goes on to this day, I fequent there often each year, Sunday being the best day and then other markets in the former East. Even nipping to Dresden is worth it, for Third Reich and East German. I don't have to many earlier medals mostly pins and badges, and just a few of the medals really. Kr Marcus

Hi Kevin, Not my thing DDR so excuse the dumb questions, on your lovely medal bar, the first two appear to be silver ones, medal and ribbon central stripe ? Why would he be issued two of the same, instead of the gold one ? I recognise the KVP (Kasernierton Volkspolizei) but I've seen this ribbon with the NVA Verdienstmedallie on too ? All reference to Bartels medals book........I read German a little about one word in every ten, but the book confuses me to be honest and doesn't give explanations of anything to any great degree I've only one .900 medal, the NVA True Dienste (gold), Bartel shows pictures of the traits to period determination on these, but it's hard form his source to determine really. There's not alot of reference on these medals, or in English. Kr Marcus

Top Row: x2 long Service x 2 Faithful Service Bottom Row: 30 and 35 Anniversary MFS badges, the NVA Achievment badge, and the sports badge was the 'Military' Sports badge. Kr Marcus

Great stuff John, We've sen each others before I think, but here's my favourite:it's the smaller of two I believe. Any idea of a period of production on this German Shepherd, on when it was first produced at all ? Kr Marcus -
How about some boxes here?!
Marcus H replied to Stogieman's topic in State, Civil Awards & Decorations
The number 16, I can't say I know of what it could really represent no. Thats a nice set though, I didn't recall you having one of those boxed. This is a nice little boxed one, nothing special really I got the cheapest one the bronze, the silver and gold being way tp expensive !!! .
