Hi Eric, I thought that those of nobility don't get nowadays awards just because of their nobility, except the order of Malta, the Johanniter order........ What's your opinion on this??? Do you have pictures of the christmassy generals with their awards?? Kind regards, Jacky
-
yes it must be our man, however aren't that quite low-graded awards for such a man in that old era?? I thought that most generals were going like christmas trees in those times??? Kind regards, Jacky

FIRST ROMANIAN SOLDIER KILLED IN IRAQ 27 APRIL
Jacky replied to Kev in Deva's topic in Modern Campaigns and Conflicts
Hi Kevin, It had to be a "peace mission" but Dutch soldiers have found themselves in a war too, after the bloody war on terrorism, both afghanistan as Iraq have to be rebuilt, to get grip on their lives and the democration has to be restored...... But instead of a peace mission to help a country rebuild it's own, soldiers go to war ?nd have to rebuild were possible....... It's just so sad.... I would like to recite John 15:13 "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends" and in my humble opinion are all those soldiers, of all nationalities, heroes, men and women, who dare their lives and who dedicates their lives to help others to live their life..... May god bless them.... And help them in these dark days. -

Hi Gents, The group I mentioned above is going to be sold...... Yes It's quite sad, but I'm going to focus myself on the WW1 and the order of leopold II... -
Very nice thread, my dear Gents.... If I may opt another option?? The russians also awarded medals of Zeal with the ribbon of the order of st Anne, so... It could be that too!!! I thought the ribbon of St Anne was used for medals of Zeal to NCO's ..... Could be also failing memories Kind regards, Jacky

ah Hendrik, you're very very true... Mea Culpa, Mea Culpa, Mea Maxima Culpa...... -
Very Nice done great Dane, Such a investment in time, but so much reward in ease...... Thank you for sharing your story!! Chris B. Yes the crown is the same, First instituted by napoleon, later accepted by the Austrian Emperors... THe order of the Iron Crown were first a napoleonic order, after Napoleon Austria-Hungaria annexed several parts of Italia, but also the order of the Iron Crown, After the Italian Monarchy came, they used the crown again... In the Crown order of Italia. *oh, sorry didn't see the post of Great Dane, anyway he's right* Kind regards, Jacky

Hi Hendrik, Always a pleasure to link to such a famous and complete site!!! May I add a little comment?? If I'm right, the bars for the POW medal were awarded for having been in a prisonner-camp between 1 month and 7 months..... Please feel free to correct me, but if a POW had been less than one month, he wouldn't have had a bar, But if he had been one month in the POW-camp, he got 1 bar... for 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 month too, THen they would count the month's again, also with 1 month, so after 7 months he would have had 2 bars..... I don't know if I have explained it clearly enough??? But for every time between 1 month and 6 months he would have "earned" a bar, So I think that his man were set free within 1 month... Or he couldn't prove that he had been long enough in a POW-camp??? Kind regards, Jacky -
The flags are a little strange to say.... It appears the French flags however these are inverted, instead of red white blue, these are blue white red..... But The crown appears to be a mural Crown, so a crown for a city!!! Maybe a city in France.... So my best guess is that this star is an unofficial decoration of a french city for some of her citizens, or a club allied to a city to promote certain products of that city Just like those medals on the OMSA webpage. OMSA Kind regards, Jacky

Nice Picture Oli4, Am I correct to see that she wears the knight of the Crown Knight of Leopold II Commemorative medal WWI Victory medal WWI Croix d'Guerre WWI Could anyone explain to me why she wears also the knight of the crown?? I thought that those who deceased were only awarded the knight of Leopold II with palm???? So the mother should be wearing the Leopold II with black bar!!! As someone who had deceased wouldn't stay in the running for more awards, the award of knight of the order of the crown seems quite odd to me!!! Kind regards, Jacky -
whow, what a nice and sharp picture, Even the close up isn't blurred!!! Keep going I love those pictures of soldiers, NCO's and officers with their christmas tree's Yes, all those deserved medals and all those stories behind them..... I'm always chuffled to see what kind of stories are hiding behind the medals Kind regards, Jacky

Hi Paul, I think I have to deny your point, as the devices are the clotted cream on the Pie..... A medal without devices is quickly found, the devices are harder to find. If I have a stroll along the web-pages, I will find a lot of those medals without clasps or other devices, but fewer with clasps and almost none with the enamelled crosses...... Kind regards, Jacky -
Belgium Belgium - WW2 Armed Resistance Medal 1940-45

Well Hendrik will give a better description, but generally; Order of Leopold II with palm; for bravery in the field (the bravery is denoted by the palm) Order of the crown; most likely a long service award Civil decoration for the WWII; for merit during the hostilities medal for the military fighter 1940-1945; for those who served in the army during WWII Warcommemorative medal with swords; the war commemorative medal were instituted for all soldiers, resistance-members e.d, together with several insignia for famous battle places, to denote the service in which the receipment served and/or the number of wounds. POW-medal; The name just says all, for each half year a clasp were awarded. This medal doesn't bear a clasp for the half-years captive nor for those who died... So what did happen to this man??? Maybe could Hendrik shed a light upon this fact?? I would think that he were set free within 1 month. At last the Armed resistance medal; for those who were involved with the armed resistance..... For more and precizer information, I will have to direct you to Hendriks Web-page Kind regards, Jacky -
