Hi Jeff Have you checked with BA Berlin-Lichterfelde ?. They have a file for him R 3901/102408. If they have a photo it is probably post WW1. As Dave Danner earlier said the chroniken for 1893 are still not digitized I assume the book for 1893 is very hard to find on Amazon.com and similar book sites. Gunnar

Hi Lew, Nice with an original badge, these are very rare as less then 50 were awarded. No need for replacement badges as these were allowed for wearing also after leaving the Marine Air Force. Lew, I think that you knew that Gross-Foto-Haus had their studio in Magdeburg. A small hint might be the Kaptlt Otto Bertram* who was born in Magdeburg who received this award. But he is not listed in GMVL so no indication of being wounded. *it existed another Kaptlt Otto Bertram who was an Reserve officer with similar career, but he was not born in Magdeburg and no indication of receiving the Marine Erinnerungsabzeichen. The active officer Otto Bertram* was leader of several Marine flying units so it should exist fotos of him. I havent checked the "Chroniken" yet, but most Years contains photos. Does the uniform indicates this rank or higher ? Gunnar

Hi If these Stammlisten also have those who were in the Reserve then I am interested in Oblt dR x Rüger who was promoted Oblt dR on 31.08.1918 (I Frankfurt a.M). He served within the Fliegertruppe during WW1, but it is possible he was an Flakman or Luftschiffer (all parts of the Fliegertruppe). He ought to have been promoted Lt dR late 1912 or early 1913. It is also a chance he started as an active officer. Mvh Gunnar

Hi webr55 The young Flieger-Leutnant Müller is rather certain Lt dR Hans Müller who have scored his 5th victory in late May 1918. However he was born 03.07.1896 in Etzel, Wittmund. He ended up with 12 victories until EOW. He is tricky to find in Post-War sources as he changed his name to Hans/Hanns Garrelt. During WW2 he served as Major dR. He was Dr, Dipl.Ing and lived in München during 1930s. Gunnar

Hi Malcolm You will have a fair chance to find good info on Lt dR Robert Tüxen as he have an BAMA file in Freiburg. As I am not focused on Jasta pilots I have not checked that file yet. He was born 30.04.1897 Scheggerott, Schleswig. After WW1 until at least early 1940s he was living in Hamburg-Fuhlsbüttel listed with occupation Flugzeugführer (pilot). In 1930s he became a member of the Richthofen association (former members). He also served during WW2 and ended up as Major dR. I do think he was the Lt dR Tüxen from RIR 86 who was promoted Lt dR 22.05.1915 (Flensburg). He is listed in PVL 14.05.1917 as lightly wounded. The incident happened 30.04.1917, some source says he was a member of FAA 213 at that time but I am unsure about that. Mvh Gunnar

Hi Dave, Regarding the Lt dR Tauchnitz in FAA 270, I am also rather convinced that Bernhard is the wanted man. He like many Saxons flyers do not have any BAMA or BA file. He got an "anerkennung" on 21.05.1918 published in the weekly Kofl 3. An anerkennung nearly always lead to an "higher" award for flying officers. For non-officers it nearly always lead to an extra higher promotion. For example Johannes Ziegler also from FAA 270 received an anerkennung in 02.1918 which lead to that he received the Hohx on 09.04.1918. Later on Johannes received at least one more anerkennung which meant that he was vorgeschlagen for the PLM. Gunnar

Hi Dave, I really like that you use the historic correct spelling of places, like writing Cassel instead of Kassel ? Regarding Lt dR Friedrich Lepper, he served within FA 39 from 03.10.1917 until 17.05.1918 when he was posted to BG 2/11. Both his BAMA file and the file on ancestry.de contains some contradicting info regarding his different aviation units. After the War he was a member of the society Bund-Bogohl, a society for former flyers from BAM,KG 2,BG 2,BG 6. He ended up as Hptm dL during WW2. Gunnar

Hi Dave, Regarding the later Luftwaffe und Dr Albert Hertz, I dont think he is the man with connection to RFAR 3. He later changed his family name to Hertz-Kleptow. I also have his Regiment as FAR 17. He received the EKI already on 30.08.1916, so in that way he is an candidate. He received the Erinnerunsabzeichen on 12.02.1920 as he did qualified for over three Years service within the Fliegertruppe. So the search continue Gunnar

Hi webr55 I dont think that the info on Wikipedia regarding Willy Kölker is reliable. It seems to be a complete mix-up with PlM candidate Lt dR Paul Billik. It apparently did not exist any pilot witn the name Kölker within the Fliegertruppe, no victory list have him, not mention in any loss lists. The photo shows a man with the U-boat badge. No Kölker is listed in the Marine ERL. So you can safely remove him Gunnar

Hi, I realized that I could afford 6 Euro each month to get access to millions of names on ancestry.de, a huge amount RLs,RQLs, MWBs etc which no researcher in this area cant be w/o imo. ? It took me less then two minutes to find the promotion to Lt dR for Hagmann, 11.11.1916 (Leonberg) anyway, Except the BAMA file mentioned by Grey (actually wrong labeled regarding DOB), Hagmann also have an file in Berlin as well one military file in Stuttgart and some other files in Württemberg archives. Among his War flying units was FAA 223. Gunnar
-
Hi, some minor adds The MWB gives his promotion as follows: Lt 27.01.1907 mit P19.07.1905, Oblt 04.07.1914, Rittm 18.08.1915, zu Res 16.12.1918. This kind of info is easily found/searchable on ancestry.de. He ended up as Oberst zV during WW2. I have him in FB 4/2 when the War started, but I dont knew exactly when he joined the Fliegertruppe but probably during 1912 to 1913. Gunnar

Hi, I am searching info on Oblt dR x Levien from FAR 24 Stralsund. I do think he is the Lt dR Levien who apparently joined the Fliegertruppe during 1915. First serving in Iraq and later was commander of an flying unit in the border against Syria/Jordan. Lt dR 19.12.1911, Oblt dR 07.03.1917(promoted in a group from Fliegertruppe) Anyone who have his date and place of birth, or any kind of added info ? Mvh Gunnar

Hi all I am looking for date and place of of birth for Oblt aD x Stiller from Grenadier Regiment 1 Königsberg. I do not knew his first name. I know he started as an active officer and was promoted as follows, Lt 18.08.1912 mit P23.08.1910, aD 04.07,1914, Oblt aD 12.02.1916 (III Berlin). He did join the Fliegertruppe late 1915 and stayed there until EOW. In 1916 he served on the Western front, and later in the Turkish theater partly as leader of an aviation unit. It exist a book about his Regiment, but I am unsure if he is mentioned there. It exist an Oblt Georg Stiller in the address book for Berlin from 1920, the next Year he is listed as Hptm aD. Could it be him ?. After 1929 this Georg apparently moved away from Berlin. Anyone who can help ? Gunnar

Hi, I am searching date and place of birth for Oblt dR Karl Schuch from originally IR 32. During the last two Years of the War he served within the Fliegertruppe. He have a connection to Berlin and before the War he was living in Berlin as Bankbeamter. After the War he was living in Meiningen. I have his promotions. He received the Sachsen-Meiningen award on 25.05.1915 probably before joining the Fliegertruppe. He might be born around 1885. Anyone who can help ? Gunnar

Hi again Dave, No the notes about Anton service as commander of FA 17 is correct. Note that it did not exist any FFAs from 1917 until EOW, the last units were renamed to FAs or FAAs early Jan 1917. However it is not unusual to see that some units used an old (wrong) Stempel. Maybe they were too lazy buying an new Stempel with the correct unit name.. It is some times tricky to understand the unit name for an German aviation unit because also German clerks also made frequent mistakes due the renaming ? Gunnar
-
Hi Dave, Yes most sources published until today have mixed up Anton with the service of Hans-Wittich, partly due the fact that they served together in some units. I have read the BAMA file for Anton von Brederlow. Unfortunate it does not contain any KRL ? Anton started his aviation training already late 1911 (cannot find date in MWB) at FlgSt Darmstadt. Those who temporarily trained as flyers often went back to their Regiment, so I think that also Anton did that, as he did not received his FzAbx until spring 1914. He was "back" at FB 3/3 Darmstadt late 1913 or early 1914. I do believe that his War units roughly were like this: FFA 27, BOW - x. FFA 69, at least from 03.1916 until ca 01.06.1916 Com KG 4/21, ca 01.06.1916 until 07.11.1916 Com Js 17, 11.11.1916 - 04.05.1917 when WIA FEA 8, 06.1917 - summer 1917, after Lazarett FEA 11, summer 1917 - x Com FA 38 (ex FFA 69), at least from 11.1917 - 03.1918 Com FA 17 (not FFA), 12.04.1918 - 19.05.1918 Com JGr 11, 19.05.1918 - x Com Js 17, ev. 08.1918 - EOW known awards: Fz.Abz 03.1914, EKII 13.09.1914,Gr.Hess.Tapf.Med 20.09.1914,EKI 27.01.1915,EB 29.12.1917,BulgTapfMed IVKl 10.02.1918,Bulg.FzAbz 05.03.1918,Hohx 13.04.1918,ErAbz 1919. Also probably VwAbz Gunnar

Thanks Dave When Otto Weber was promoted to Hptm dR he is listed among a group of the Fliegertruppe. However it also means that he could have been a Flakman or Luftschiffer. I do not think that he is the flyer within FFA 54. Georg Weber is a new name for me, I will see if I can find further info on him. I also dont think he is the wanted man. The wanted man could however have been Hptm Willy Weber (P) who was leader of an flying unit in 1918 with this rank. It existed an Luftwaffe Oberst with this name but so far I could not link them, but it means that he might have been an active officer. Gunnar

Hi again, I am coming back regarding the "Teller" with all the names. I now think that signature after von Blankenburg is Oblt Weber. He was apparently the regular pilot to Zorer around this time, May 1916. I have an possible candidate to be him, an Oblt dR x Weber from FAR 52. This Weber was later promoted Hptm dR on 19.05.1917 (VI Berlin). Can anyone help to identify him ? He will be a strong candidate to have received the Hohx. Btw, Georg Langhoff served at AFP Süd as Büro-Offizier during this period. Gunnar

Hi Dave, I basically have the same info as you regarding Arthur Schoeller. In one source I have seen his birthplace given as Hellenthal, Schleiden which is nearby the given by you. I have not found any birth certificate for him but both his heirat certificate and death certificate gives Kirschseiffen, Schleiden which probably is correct place. In these two certificates his name is given as Artur Schöller, and he also himself wright his name so. ? But I believe Arthur Schoeller is his correct birth name. He was an original member and observer in FFA 4 which was formed out of FB 4/1 Straßburg at BOW, but I dont have notes on his pre-War service. He later went over to fly Giant a/c in RFA 501 before returning to an home-land unit in Aug 1918. Gunnar
