DDR Athletic Honorings
Gordon Craig replied to speedytop's topic in Germany: Post 1945: Bundesrepublik & DDR
Uwe, Nice documents. Especially the early GST one. Regards, Gordon -
Gentlemen, My copy of Jens's book arrived yesterday afternoon. For those collectors interested in how uniforms were worn at the very beginning of the BW this is a "must have" book. I am not saying this just because my wife and I edited the English text. I always new this would be a worthwhile addiition to any BW collectors library. I waited to recive my copy of the book before commenting on it because Jens had said that the printed pictures came out much clearer/better than the digital images we had been working with during the drafting of the text. He certainly was right there. Jens needs a big hand from all BW collectors for the time and effort he put into bringing this book to completion. Regards, Gordon

Bulgarian 1946 M tunic
Gordon Craig replied to Gordon Craig's topic in Southern European & Balkan States
It has just occured to me that it is somewhat foolish of me to try disprove an unproven allegation. How do I know that you are actually the person who sold me the uniform? If you had a charge back on your credit card then please scan the paperwork showing this charge back and post it on the forum. I can then trace the transaction through my credit card company. Also, my email address has not changed for over 10 years. If you were not paid for this uniform when you sold it to me why why did you not contact me about the payment instead of waiting this many years to acuse me of nonpayment on a public forum? Gordon -
Bulgarian 1946 M tunic
Gordon Craig replied to Gordon Craig's topic in Southern European & Balkan States
I am afraid this is just your word against mine that I did not pay you for the uniform. I have gone back through my records and so far have found nothing other than the pictures from the original auction. Which, by the way, included the buckle. You did not add it later. I do not wish to pay for the uniform twice nor do I wish you to feel cheated. I will do the best I can to trace the credit card transactions and get back to you. I can do no more than that at this time. Regards, Gordon -
Bulgarian 1946 M tunic
Gordon Craig replied to Gordon Craig's topic in Southern European & Balkan States
mightythor, This transaction took place some time ago and all of the details are not clear in my mind but to my recollection this transaction was settled amicably in the end. I am not a thief nor have I ever been accused of being one before. Yes I did receive the uniform and to the best of my knowledge you were paid for it. To me that concluded the deal. I do owe you an appology for not posting to this thread that the uniform had arrived and for that I am sorry. Regards, Gordon -
Austria-Hungary Help with Uniform Identification
Gordon Craig replied to oneilr's topic in Austro-Hungarian Empire
oneilr, It could have been taken a little later although it would have to have been before 1908 when the field grey uniform came into issue. Since it takes time for all members of the armed forces to be issued a new uniform it is possible it was later than this date as well. Always difficult to date a photo like this unless it has a date at the bottom of the studios name. It has the "feel" of a late 19th century photo. Regards, Gordon -
Can anybody help me identify this uniform please
Gordon Craig replied to samsquirrel's topic in USSR: Soviet: Other Militaria
samsquirrel, The tunic could date from the WWII period or possibly to the early 50s with those shoulder boards. The rank is for a major and the gold background could indicate a combat role. Silver back ground was used for Administrative services etc. Are there any markings inside the tunic? They are usually found close to the botton of the tunic skirt in a black outlined square. The last line in the square indicates the year of manufacture. It would be the letter g followed by the year. Regards, Gordon -
Austria-Hungary Help with Uniform Identification
Gordon Craig replied to oneilr's topic in Austro-Hungarian Empire
oneilr, I would date the picture closer to last half of the 19th century. The pants in wear have the braid on the front to indicate the wearer was in the Hungarian infantry so possibly after the compromise of 1860. The field cap would appear to be of the post 1870 type. The shoulder cords are for marksmanship. Best guess from the photo. Regards, Gordon -

Steve and Chris, Thanks for your comments. I should have held onto my guns longer! At least now I have a ballpark figure and I can contact the people with the one for sale. Regards, Gordon -

Hungary Prison Guard Clothes from the Kádár Era
Gordon Craig replied to decker's topic in Central & Eastern European States
decker, Sorry but I still can not see your photos. I've tried both my laptop and my desktop and neither one is able to open the fotos you have posted. I don't have any prison guard uniforms. I bought a heavy grey wool uniform at the monthly show in Budapest about four or five years ago that the vendor said was for a prison guard but I don't think that it is. The markings on the inside indicate it was for a hospital of some kind. There are loops for shoulder boards but no boards on the tunic when I bought it. Regards, Gordon -
Gentlemen, A friend called yesterday to say that while in an antique store a couple came in with cell phone pictures of what sounds like, to me, an 08/15 which they wanted to sell. The store owner wasn't interested but my friend got the couples info and called me to see if I was interested. I sold my 08 and 08/15 several years ago but would be interested in this piece for resale. I realize that condition etc has a definite connection to value but I would appreciate it if someone could give me a ball park figure for a piece that is complete. I can do the math for the actual condition of the piece from that. Regards, Gordon

Paul, Here is a cap from my collection showing an example of the slip on arm of servcice devices worn in the flecktarn cap. This was not officially allowed but accepted in some units. This particular cap came to me with a batch of hats from Germany and I did not know what the coloured thing in the air holes meant for some time. Regards, Gordon -

Gordon Craig replied to SteveL's topic in Germany: Post 1945: Bundesrepublik & DDR
Steve, Thanks for posting the response from Hans-Jurgens. It is not unknown for tailors to use colours of waffenfarbe that do not match those published by the BW. Makes things all that more difficult, and therefore intersting? for us collectors. Regards, Gordon -

Steve, I am glad to see someone else interested in women's tunics. The majority of collectors I meet do not collect them. Regards, Gordon
