    1. Joe, and in the case of Herr Skalweit above it obviously did. Commissioned as a Leutnant der Landwehr I he must have been at least 27 on first commissioning. Although on the books of Landwehrbezirk Magdeburg, he was interestingly enough a School Director in Pittsburgh! He retired from Landwehr service on 18 August 1910 having in the interim been transfered to the jurisdiction of Landwehrbezirk D?sseldorf. Regards Glenn
    2. Rick, Don't own one but lots of copies available on zvab. Regards Glenn
    3. Chris, I have copy of Walter Bloem's history published in 1940. It is not indexed but does have a complete losses list in the rear. Regards Glenn
    4. Bob, you will not find any active service listed. He was commissioned as a Reserve Officer from the rank of Vizefeldwebel der Reserve on 20 July 1901. Consequently he appears for the first time in the 1902 Rangliste under the Reserve Officers of Garde-Grenadier-Regiment Nr. 5 (Landwehrbezirk Coblenz). His Patent was 20.7.01 S2s. He would probably have been around 23 years of age on first commissioning. Regards Glenn
    5. Hello fregatte, Dr. Ing. Karl Meyer, Landbauinspektor, Hannover, Akazienstra?e 5 B (1911) Leutnant d.R.: 20.7.01 Oberleutnant d.R. 10.9.10 Hauptmann d.R.: 11.11.14 5.8.14: Oberleutnant d.R. in Ersatz-Bataillon/G.G.R. 5 12.2.15: Train-Ersatz Abteilung 10, Stra?enbaukompanie Nr. 2 1.3.15: Stra?enbaukompanie Nr. 2 in the field. Later Chef, Baudirektion 10. Armee. EK1, EK2, BMVOX Regards Glenn
    6. Chris, one of the companies of II./I.R. 407 was formed from a company of the Replacement Battalion (Ersatz-Bataillon) of I.R. 72. Regards Glenn
    7. Just received in the post today my latest Stammliste - Infanterie-Regiment Graf Kirchbach (1. Niederschlesisches) Nr. 46 . This it seems was the copy of one Hauptmann Egon L?bbert, the former Regimental Adjutant and in WW1 the Adjutant of 18th Army. Herr L?bbert has written in manuscript his appointment as the Regimental Adjutant and his last prewar appointment as the Adjutant to the Landwehr-Inspektor Posen and simultaneous promotion to Hauptmann on 1 October 1913. Egon L?bbert survived the war and retired as a Major. Regards Glenn
    8. Rick, thought this might be of interest. Regards Glenn
    9. Charles, Gold for Kriegsministerium. Regards Glenn
    10. E.K.K. = Erprobungskommando f?r Kriegsschiffneubauten ( New warship construction testing staff) 3rd Section of SKL was the Abteilung Nachrichtenauswertung. (Intelligence evaluation section) Regards Glenn
    11. Following the outbreak of the war only a very assignments continued to be gazetted in the Milit?r-Wochenblatt, those to the War Ministry (Kriegsministerium) being amongst them. Major Reid was "temporarily" attached to the War Ministry on 18 January 1915 with a definitive transfer to there on 1 October 1915. Regards Glenn
    12. Oberstleutnant Franz Reid. 17.5.92: Sek.-Lieut. 14.9.00: Oberleutnant 13.9.06: Hauptmann 8.11.14: Major Originally commissioned into Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 85 on 17 May 1892. He had been the Adjutant to the Governor of Ulm (Uniform of Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 170) when he was assigned as the Company Commander of 11./I.R. 55 on 21 April 1911. Regards Glenn
    13. Paul, it is a small town in Namibia (formerly DSWA). Also spelt Keetmannshoop. Regards Glenn
    14. Alex, I am sorry I have no information on his awards. I was also unable to get a better scan of the very small original photograph. Regards Glenn
    15. Chris, Eike Mohr in his unit bibliography of unit histories only mentions a small 58 page booklet on the regiment: Festschrift zum 10. j?hrigen Regimentsjubil?um des Reserve-Infanterie-Regiments 238, Karlsruhe, 1924. So in effect, probably nothing of any substance on the regiment. Regards Glenn
    16. Garde-Grenadier-Regiment Nr. 5 was only formed on 31 March 1897 and the 1897 Rangliste is the only edition that shows Alexander v. Stosch as an active officer in that regiment. His transfer to GGR. 5 from 2. GRzF had been gazetted on 22 March 1897 to take effect on 1 April 1897. The Albrecht v. Stosch who Rick mentioned can also be seen with his first name in the 1897 list. He was a former Kaiser Franz Garde-Grenadier-Regiment Nr. 2 officer transfered into GGR. 5 on the same day. Regards Glenn
    17. Rick, just looked into the Heldengedenkmappe. Seems they got his prewar unit wrong as he never served in 5. GRzF but in GGR 5. Regards Glenn
    18. Chip, the DK is the Dienst-Auszeichnungskreuz although of course he was a a holder of the D?ppelerkreuz. He was awarded the EK2 for Sedan in 1870 whilst serving as the Regimental Adjutant of GGR 4. Regards Glenn
    19. David, the 3. GRzF v. Stosch in 1898 was one Hauptmann Ulrich v. Stosch, born 10.12.1858 in Posen and died on 15.2.1928 and so presumably not your v. Stosch? He retired from Prussian service on 20.7.1898. He served with Landsturm Infanterie-Ersatz-Bataillon Wiesbaden and the Etappenkommandantur 219 (Rear Area Command) on recall during WW1. Promoted to charakterisierter (brevet) Major. a.D. on 21 July 1915. A check of the relevant Gotha shows that Alexander Wilhelm Leopold v. Stosch was a Leutnant der Reserve au?er Dienst (retired) in 1913. He was born on 23 February 1874 at Schwerin. Alexander v. Stosch had been originally commissioned into the 2. GRzF on 18.8.95 and transfered to Garde-Grenadier-Regiment Nr. 5 on 1.4.97. He left the Army on 18.8.97, returning to service as a reserve officer in Ulanen-Regiment Nr. 12 on 12.9.02. He retired from reserve service on 18.5.05 with a view to emigrating. I then find him on promotion to Oberleutnant der Reserve a.D. on 26 November 1915 on the staff of the commander of motorized troops of 11th Army. Regards Glenn
    20. Hi Chip, Generalmajor Karl v. Barton gen. v. Stedman. Regards Glenn
    21. Alex, the photograph is from "Die gelbe Ulanen-Brigade". The original photograph was very small so I am not sure if a better scan is possible. I will try this evening. Regards Glenn
    22. Rick, Hultzsch's promotion to Major d.R. a.D. was published in the 23 May 1916 edition of the Saxon Milit?r-Verordnungsblatt so no retroactive promotion. I assume Roth compiled his information from this publication. Regards Glenn
    23. Hello Alex, Leutnant Oskar Kayser: 27.1.15: F?hnrich 18.8.15: Leutnant (ohne Patent) Patent of 10.8.14 He was commanding the Minenwerfer-Abteilung of Ulanen-Regiment Nr. 11 from the summe rof 1917. Regards Glenn
    24. Hi Paul, Joseph Julius Gustav Emil v. Elpons, born 15 March 1838 in Hennerwitz, Upper Silesia. Shown in the 1904/05 DOA with a Crown Order 3 Awards: D70/71 SLMVX RAO4 KRO3 EK2 DA ZM He retired in 1895/96 and presumably died in 1906/07. Regards Glenn
    25. I checked the Ranglisten of the k.u.k. Heer, k.k. Landwehr and k.u. Landwehr for 1918 and found no match for either a Linowa or a Sinowa Regards Glenn
