    1. AH! Well, given the odds, perhaps its safe to assume lower classes of the orders?
    2. Interesting wearing precedence. he wears the Hansa in the penultimate place-AFTER the LS cross and before the Portuguese medal. His medal bar will be easy to identify if it ever comes to market.
    3. A carnival/drinking tinnie? Isn't that Baron Munchhausen? I translate "Narrentreffen" as "Idiots Convention" or "Meeting of fools".
    4. WoW!! That has every device possible on it. The key is the colonial service campaign medals I think. I reckon Brigadier at end of his career. I'd wager 100 $ the MC was for WW1 and he was a Captain, acting Major. Tanks? REME? He has every European campaign star there was, so he was on a first name basis with Monty.
    5. See here: http://www.oocities.com/~orion47/WEHRMACHT/KRIEGSMARINE/Vizeadmirals/KOLBE_HANS.html decorations (as of 1932) REO4, EK1,Officers' Long Service cross, HHOx, LuH, McKlnbrg. Cross 2 and Portuguese Life saving medal!
    6. wow! Pristine! I have never seen a female version before.
    7. Ah ha! Many thanks for your answer! How does one tell if its a 7th/8th class version of the Rising Sun or Sacred Treasure? Do the ribbons change for the class of the order?
    8. Recently I picked up a nice little Japanese ribbon bar at a flea market. At the end is the usual 300 Y awarded red cross medal. In speaking to RR, he opined that it was an officers' bar, as most NCOs and privates earned too little to be able to afford Red Cross membership at 300 Yen for the medal. So, my question is, how much did a senior sergeant earn? How much did a Jr. Lt etc? Is it possible to "guesstimate" that it is an officers' ribbon bar by the presence of the red cross medal ribbon? The ribbon bar is a typical 3/2 with both Chinese campaign medals, the red cross at the end and what I assume are 7th/8th class Rising Sun and Sacred Treasures in 1st and 2nd place.
    9. Bloody heck you did well. I am really, really jealous!
    10. OMG!!!!! In a flea market? where? How much? :jumping:
    11. Neatsfoot is awesome!! I once used it to restore and save a WW1 French canteen i found in an old barn where it had been hanging for decades! The leatehr came back perfectly! I have just used it to restore the gun traces of an old civil war cannon that was abandoned in the local history society shed! It is awesome!! :jumping:
    12. You mean a jubilee medal? Note the last one- isn't that Oman? I bet he was out of the country in 1977. It screams : "Trumpets Depart" career though: MBE/France star/Def.mdl./39-45/GSM two bars (Palestine/NI)/Africa (Mau Mau) /Cyprus UN/Korea/Korea/LS/Oman! Very, very, very cool. What a life! Can we see a close up? :jumping:
    13. Is it a pin back? It looks quite beaten up. You see these usually on ribbons. They were made by jewelers and sold in catalogs and local veterans associations had them made and awarded for "long service/membership". there are all sorts out there.
    14. Well, without a doubt you have greatest Iraqi militaria collection in the world-outside of Iraq. I am amazed. Is that medallion an army commemoration one? It looks like the medal.
    15. Ah! Never mind. I have just answered my own question after going to google images. Neat little bar I got: Order of Rising Sun (7th/8th class?)/Order of sacred treasure (7th/8th class?) China Incident medal 1931-34: China Incident medal 1937-45: red cross medal. I assume some sort of NCO.
