No wonder you are happy!! Obverse detail looks good. No real signs of casting. Reverse hardware appears period (wartime or early post-war) and is in line with other EK1 equivalent variants from Meck-Schwerin, Lippe-Detmold, Braunschweig, Oldenburg, etc. I certainly like it a lot and would not have hesitated either. For that price, what does it matter anyway! Regards Mike

Hi, Please provide a better pic of the maker mark! The We I have has a different core but I have not heard of an Ne marking on an EK1. Please provide a BIGGER pic of the maker marking, which is not 1/2 in shadow, if you would like an answer! Regards Mike

Hi Tom, No idea yet. Instead of digitally flipping the image like in post 3, try scanning again but acutally moving the cross/ring through 0, 90, 180 and 270 degress. Regards Mike

I have this style of hinge/hingeplate and catch/catchplate on 3 or 4 EK1s - all are screwback to pinback conversions. The pin on this example seems a bit thicker than on the examples I have. Gut feeling is that it has had it's hardware professionally replaced. Personally I have no real issues with the cross and if it came my way at a decent price I'd buy it. Regards Mike

Hi Richard, The two "FR" core variants are known, as are the two "Fr" core variants! The maker of the nice pumpkin crown, blued core, spoon-billed pin examples is still unknown to the best of my knowledge. 3 nice new arrivals!! Regards Mike

I don't know if he'll be ripping anybody off, but if he does at least he could have used genuine items! His EK1 full size and Prinzens are repros, as is the Baltic Cross and the Lippe-Detmold 1st Class. I tihnk more likely a well established fake peddler starting off with a new username - either that or a collector with no knowledge dumping all his stuff - time will tell! Regards Mike

I agree with Micha - recent fakes popping up on eBay. I am assuming, without looking, the eBay seller is sterog62? Imo lots of very nice but EXTREMELY suspect to outright fake items. Regards Mike

Hi Roman, Imo a wartime award example with the private additional of the zweihaken (imo a post-award, but not necessarily post-war, alteration). I have only seen zweihaken on a Godet marked FA1X before, but the hooks on your example look very neatly done and I like them a lot. Great variant! Regards Mike

Here are my four - all are slightly different. The top right example is actually a a very dark burgundy, even though the scan makes it look black. Note that it has a gold stamped cross whereas the two lower ones have silver crosses. As for makers, the crosses currently residing in the cases are We, KO, WS (incuse relief stamping) and an Fr+W (that's in the top right case but I added it - the others arrived in their cases. Tom, What size is the EK? 42-43 mm (pre-TR) or 44 mm, which would be correct for Meybauer TR? Even if the marking is a "7", is does NOT necessarily mean this "7" has anything to do with WW2 markings - it could be something similar to the numbers found under the pins of many S-W EK1s (ie quality control, assemblers marking, etc). Hi Tom, That's a nice EK, and i really like the mount - un-messed with and straight out of a period photo! Re the marking, I'd probably rule out the Z & N options as there should be two parallel strokes on those and that flat "tail" leans towards the 7 or 2 or maybe even a P. Regards Mike

Gents, if you look carefully at the "lower case" KVK2 variants in posts 10 & 16 - concentrate on the crown for a start - you will see that these two are actually from different dies. Very interesting! My own unmounted example is the same as the post#16 type. Regards Mike

Hi, These came in a little lot of items and I have no idea what most of them are - only guesses. Probably in at least part Austrian related. The large (40 mm) Der Tapferkeit medal (solid silver by Leisek, with "A" punch mark on the rim) I have researched, so that one is OK. But what are the others? The red plastic eagles and white eidelweiss I am guessing are some sort of day/donation pins (like German WHW pins)? The little patch I have no idea about and the other 6 I am assuming are individually sewn on ribbon bars for medals unknown to me (those might even be US). The larger one is bronze/silver bullion, the middle sixed one is ?bronze coloured bullion and the smaller one is ?white cotton. Not pictured was also a small ?silk shield pacth of the swiss flag (white cross on red background). Any ideas? Regards Mike
