Soviet Soviet Awards to Hungarians
hunyadi replied to hunyadi's topic in Russia: Soviet Orders, Medals & Decorations
Aside from the Joszef name - the handwriting style of all three award books (save for the carrying document in Hungarian!) is from the same person. -
Hungary Magyar Nepkoztarsasag badges
hunyadi replied to Ulsterman's topic in Central & Eastern European States
Yep - cant comment on what exactly they are for (perhaps platoon leaders - 'den' masters??) as they simply state Hungarian Peoples Republic Little Drummer (blue) and HUPR Pioneer (red) -
Hungary Post Your Hungarian Medal Bars
hunyadi replied to Gordon Craig's topic in Central & Eastern European States
More than likely, but its impossible to say for certain. With the Order of Merit to the Socialist Nation at the front he was a high party member - one of the elite. Though I would have also expected to see the Jubilee Medal in there as well. The bar is not 'full' and still has some room for one more medal. Perhaps it fell off and was never replaced. Finding photos of medal bars in wear is a hard subject as they do exist and they were worn, only for really big events (or private affairs far from the propoganda cameras. I have seen one photo at a party function where Rakosi is wearing his medals - a man who was follwoed constantly by the propoganda machines and a man who liked to have his photo taken with important 'other' people...even if they wernt really in the room with him.) Anyhow - the ribbon bar was just the prefered method for about everything. -
Soviet Soviet Awards to Hungarians
hunyadi replied to hunyadi's topic in Russia: Soviet Orders, Medals & Decorations
Unfortunatly all three of these are un-numbered awards from the 1960's. As others had pointed out - these may have been members of the small contingent of Hungarian WW1 POW's who joined forces with the Red Army during the civil war - or they may have been part of the Red Army as the 1000+ Red Army trained partisans. What is interesting as a note is that for the Military Merit Medal - the requirement is a first name of Josef....(a common Hungarian name) -

Hungary Accident Free Driving Awards
hunyadi replied to Gordon Craig's topic in Central & Eastern European States
I asked Gordon the same question the other day - between us I am the only one who has seen one - it was for the third class as I recal, from 1958 (as the cobwebs in my mind remember) but it had been folded a thousand times too many and has tape holding it together and more money than I wanted to spend. The citation read to a normal individual (nothing specail except the title 'comrade') -

Hungary Post Your Hungarian Medal Bars
hunyadi replied to Gordon Craig's topic in Central & Eastern European States
Bar 1 - dont know about this one - looks like it could be a bottom bar for a general who had a much more impressive 'upper bar', a person with the most lack-lustre career, or a previous collector who found a way of storing his collection of service medals (I bought this just as it is) -
Soviet Soviet Awards to Hungarians
hunyadi replied to hunyadi's topic in Russia: Soviet Orders, Medals & Decorations
This is the page that lists the award - there is just a ghost of a stamp listing the Military Merit Medal, but it is there. You can just see a smudge on the first line in this scan... -
Soviet Soviet Awards to Hungarians
hunyadi replied to hunyadi's topic in Russia: Soviet Orders, Medals & Decorations
Got another one today - just another Military Merit Medal. But what is nice about this one is that it also comes with the Hungarian award book. This is also a Ukaz for veterans of the Russian Revolution on the 50th Anniversary. -

hunyadi replied to hunyadi's topic in Great Britain: Militaria: Badges, Uniforms & Equipment

Looked at this tunic today and what caught my eye was the RVN service medal and another ribbon that I am not familiar with. Then I noticed the para badge on the shoulder. My guess is Australian? The buttons have what looks like a horse surmounted on a lightning flash with a crown at the top? As far as I can see everything is original and untouched to the tunic - so the RVN ribbon is of interest to me - but I would like to know what I am getting beofre I get it - any help is greatly apreaciated. Sorry for my ignorance in this area. Udv!

Hungary The Hungarian Szocialista Brigade
hunyadi replied to Gordon Craig's topic in Central & Eastern European States
Kevin and Peter - very nice items! Kevin - looks like you have an earlier version with the hot enamel Peter - I just want to ask what are the characteristics between the old and new Brigade Flag? Can you also post the various types of your badges - looks like you have several of the variants there (zink, hot enamel, cold enamel, etc...) -

Soviet Order of the Red Flag
hunyadi replied to Bear's topic in Russia: Soviet Orders, Medals & Decorations
Now that is something - I wonder if these were ever produced? From the statement of 'furled, unfurled or folded in a triagle' I would guess that Igor was hammering these out in the woodshed with tin and red paint? -
EK 1914 Unmarked 1914 EKII
hunyadi replied to Troy Tempest's topic in Germany: All Eras: The Iron Cross
"I understand what this means to the collecting community who have been burned over and over and over again by the unscrupulous reproduction industry. Therefore I personally have undertaken the project collect these known reproductions and expose them to the collecting world so that in the future, such things will never happen again. In order to compile this database and to relive some of the economic burden that you have suffered, I am willing to pay you $15 for each and every unmarked Iron Cross. I will also be buying the other fakes - the ones that appear to be maker marked, but are indeed marked by the fakers to make them appear more original. These fakes that I am referring to here are the thousands of ones with unreadable marks. Because of the German strict guidelines for inventory and manufacturing accounting no Iron Crosses could ever be delivered to the German Service of Supply for distribution where the makers mark could not clearly be read. Because I care so much about the collecting community I will also reveal this shocking detail that only a few of the great experts know: All Iron Crosses were named on the lower rim... Shocking I know - but all the lies about unatributable crosses perpetrated by the collecting community are simply not true! Therefore as a gesture to expose even further this lie, I will buy all unmarked, unreadable maker marked and all unnamed EKs to compile a database that will put these spinsters to ultimate shame." All Iron Crosses First or Second Class for $15. Void where prohibited. Shipping and Handling is sellers responsibility minimum charge is $28.99. No refunds accepted, seller will never get their Iron Cross back and you will probably never hear from this person again. Database is purely fictional and is only for personal gain. -
Hungary The Hungarian Order of Merit
hunyadi replied to Anatoly13's topic in Central & Eastern European States
yes there was - but I think that the photos I took were too blury - so I delted them. As I recall it came in a "standard" (aprox 140mm x 85mm x 25mm) size case with just the award and the ribbon bar.
