Nazi gold on ebay!
bigjarofwasps replied to bigjarofwasps's topic in Coins & Commemorative Medallions
HiGuys, thanks for the amusing replies On a serious note, I believe I`m right in saying that Nazi gold bars where stamped with RB on them, and where dated pre-war very shadey! I agree I`m glad no one has been conned, even ebay must know there rubbish otherwise they`d have removed them. No, if you want to own something thats got a clear & documented Nazi gold connection, I still think its got to be the 1935 LB Swiss 20 franc Helveti coins (see my other thread). These have a very dubious history!!! Gordon. -
Soviet Badge identification....
bigjarofwasps replied to bigjarofwasps's topic in Russia: Soviet: Other Militaria
Cheers Guys, thats been a great help!!! Could I ask what is refered to when you say Flot, I assume the emblem on the badge is the letter F in Russian. Is this some sort of rank or does it show which unit (if thats the right word) the guy was in. I also assume that its pre 1991, when they were still the CCCP? With regards to the trade badges, I assume the gold circle means a higher grade/level of trading than the one just with the red? Whats the submarine badge about, is it like the ones the US & UK have once you`ve qualified as submariner? -

A version of Battle Dress intended for working clothing was produced from denim with several manufacturer's variants German U-Boat crews were also commonly issued with British Army battledress (with German insignia added). Large stockpiles had been captured by the Germans after the fall of France in 1940. Germany also produced a new uniform in 1944 to replace its existing uniforms, it largely resembled the Battle dress.

U977 & Nazi gold story........
bigjarofwasps replied to mariner's topic in Coins & Commemorative Medallions
Its certainly not well documented, but then again it wouldn`t be would it. Given all the stories of nazi gold being at the bottom of lakes, etc ,etc, etc. Don`t suppose this is anything new, I`m not 100% convinced myself, but at the end of the day we`ll never know..................... :( -
Your talking a lot of sense there Gordon. If its not broke don`t fix it as it where. Thinking about it, the King Tiger had loads of teething problems, perhaps if the war had dragged on a few more years and they`d ironed them out, he might have gone for the King, that being said the King would have been superseded by the E100 by then........

Don`t know who Norm Christie is? Doesn`t ring any bells, but they did credit the kill to the Sherbrooke Fusiliers. Their argument being that the Yeomanry would have been too far away, they also only claimed 3 kills, which seemed to fall in nicely with where the other 3 wrecked tanks in the squadron where, Wittmans tank being right in front of the Canadians and within spitting distance of their position. Anyway I`m going here. I`m just curious as to why the Germans didn`t give their best ace their best tank?

Hi Guys, Don`t know if anyone watched the documentary on Sky the other day, about Michael Wittman, and who was created with killing him. It was very interesting and as someone who knows next to nothing about him it was very enlightening. But I have one question which I`m hoping someone will be able to shine some light on for me.... Why didn`t he command a King Tiger? Anyone know? http://en.wikipedia....ichael_Wittmann

Usually, the United States Mint will begin production of the American Silver Eagle bullion coins bearing the following year's date in late November or early December. This allows the US Mint to begin accepting orders in December for delivery of the coins in early January. This system has allowed bullion and coin dealers to get a jump on the demand for newly dated coins. This year, the 2010 dated American Silver Eagles will be arriving a bit later. The US Mint recently announced that they would begin taking orders from authorized purchasers on January 19, 2010. This is the latest in a number of changes to normal procedures for United States Mint precious metals coin offerings that began in 2008. Back then the first of many sales suspensions was put into place first for Silver Eagles and later for Gold Eagles and Gold Buffalo coins. The suspensions were generally followed by availability of coins under a rationing program. Eventually, the collector versions of the Gold and Silver Eagles were impacted when the US Mint began sourcing precious metals blanks exclusively to the production of bullion coins. The 2008 Proof Silver Eagle sold out very early in the year, never to return. The 2009 collectible Gold and Silver Eagle offerings were canceled. The delay of 2010 Silver Eagle coins seems to indicate that the US Mint may be falling even further behind the curve on fulfilling public demand. As it stands, the silver bullion coins are fresh off of a recent suspension and reimplemented rationing program.

British Army
bigjarofwasps replied to bigjarofwasps's topic in Great Britain: Research, Documentation & History
Hi Guys, Don`t know if anyone has been watching `Combat School` on Sky. Basically its about a Canadian Regiment, and its pre-deployment training for Afghanistan. Its well worth watching, but the reason why I`ve brought it up is that there appears to be at least two guys within the Regiment that have full beards, which I found very interesting, does anyone know what the story is there......? Gordon. -

The Flash
bigjarofwasps replied to mariner's topic in Great Britain: Militaria: Badges, Uniforms & Equipment
I agree the Razman in his almost god like status, would almost certainly have worn the Flash, like the officers, however, I think I`m right in saying that the remainder of the enlisted filth, would not have worn it, on their battledress `per se`. -
Hi Guys, Can anyone tell me whether there are any trades/appointments in the current British Army, that require the soldier in that position to wear a beard? Also am I right in thinking that the current war in Afghanistan is the first time since the Crimean war that British soldiers have been actively encouraged wear a beard?
