Gordon, it sounds like a wonderful project.Looking at the names of the contributors i am sure there will be some superb examples illustrated.I have a very nice example of a zinc Schwerin HSF badge that is on hold for me right now.I should have it in a couple of weeks. Regards,Martin.
Chris, my guess would be one of the early type tombak Schwerin's.I have one with the recipients service no. scratched on the reverse. N1060/34T. This indicates he joined the Kriegsmarine in 1934.So i wonder if he was one of the earliest recipients of the award? Cheers,Martin.
Gordon, great looking badge and interesting to see in zinc.So we know that Jucker produced their U-Boat and their Coastal Artillery badges in zinc but i have yet to see one of their Auxiliary Cruiser badges in zinc,or at least one that can be attributed to Juncker. Regards,Martin.
Hi nesredep, here are some "party" photographs from a family album i have just received. There is an individual who appears in all three pictures and he is the one wearing the Minesweeper badge. First up is what appears to be a party with shipmates, possibly Christmas?
Pat, the new badge looks like a good Schwerin zincer to me.Tombak badges would not have the "bubbling" as your badge does.Another way to identify Schwerin tombak badges is that they do not have the circular catch plate. Regards,Martin.
Here is a recent arrival.Shows the U-Boat and Minesweeper badges nicely.Hard to tell from the photo if the swastika is segmented on the U-Boat badge but from the angle of the flag i'm wondering if it is a Zimmermann badges or perhaps a Mayer? Regards,Martin.
Nice looking badge Gordon and it appears to show good, honest wear. The Schwerin Hilfskreuzer has to be my favorite of all Kriegsmarine badges.I have two zinc examples but no tombak one yet.I think that the recipient of this badge went through a lot of trouble to repair it as he liked it so much. Regards,Martin.
