    1. This is a very interesting photo. The sign says "Probe-Fahrt" "Tryout-tour". So the soldiers are either part of a driving school or some sort of mechanics who try out new or repaired motorcycles. GreyC
    2. Hi, thank you, but nobody is forcing you....though every intersting picture will be appreciated ;-) GreyC
    3. Hi MG1918, thank you for your careful observations. I am not really familiar with all of the technical terms and abbriviations, so could you tell me what an AA sight is? Anti-Aircraft? Thank you! GreyC
    4. Hi, first (very interesting) photo: NCO sentry (Posten) in Dixmuiden. In the background a detonating enemy granade . Other side: Dear Emma, for you this card. Here you see a redoubt. The bags are full of earth or dirt. And the walls are up to three meters wide/thick/strong, so that no shot will penetrate easily. But if a granade hits directly it is all destroyed. The 2nd photo shows the BAVARIAN RIR3, 2nd coy. Greetings to a brother and the info that an accquaintance (?) was KIA. Best, GreyC
    5. Hi Bayern, yes, that´s the English expression I suppose. GreyC
    6. Hi, thank you for the promptly posted additional photos! GreyC
    7. Hi MG1918, thank you for responding. Do you have any photo-examples of these that you mentioned? And what do you think about the idea of this being a naval variant of the MG08/15? Best, GreyC
    8. Thank´s for the input, Bayern. But shouldn´t it be rather a Rückstoßverstärker with a MG? So the opposite? GreyC
    9. Thank you, that helps. What´s i tersting with the 2nd crd is that it seems to originate in New York, was mailed from Cologne by a Saxon to his mother in Saxony. Now at that time the US was still neutral, so maybe it was a photographic gimmick invented in the US and exported to Germany where some German photo studio had it on offer. GreyC
    10. Hi, 2nd card: Wants to know if mother has sent him money 3rd card: I think the name is Baues. Compare the "n" in "Untf." They usually, but not always distinguished u and n by a horizontal stroke above the letter, that is missing here above the "u". GreyC PS: It would help considerably if the cards with writing on them would be posted in the right angle to read them, not in a 90 degree angle.
    11. Nice cards! Thank´s for posting. The Pionier-Bataillon was stationed in Harburg, today part of Hamburg. GreyC
    12. Hi, a formidable collection. I only have a few photos. This is one of them and seems special as I have been told this to be the navy variant 8mm. Manned by soldiers from the VI. Seebattailon in Ostende. What might the application be for on the left barrel? GreyC
    13. Shot down over the English Channel by 2nd (German) Torpedoboot-Zerstörer Flottille (small vessel between torpedoboat and destroyer) GreyC
    14. Hi, Martha Stökle 7 Kronen Langenenslingen Hohenzollern So probably the address of a hotel where she was presently lodging or working. GreyC
    15. Hi Chris and all, who apart from SB and mountain troops would be equipped with leather reinforced trousers? GreyC
    16. Hi, this will not be the official name of the ship. It´s a play on words with Kakerlake=cockroach. To me the little I can see it looks like a hulk or a "Wohnschiff" or a ship as floating office. GreyC
    17. I´d politely disagree. No Jastel in the Verlustlisten, WIA or KIA. As christian name highly unlikely. For me still Jakob. GreyC
    18. Hi, would like to see that. Usually Regimentskarten bear the number of the specific regiment which makes them a Regimentskarte in the first place. GreyC
    19. Pleasure! It´s interesting how one design seems to have sold over many years. That speaks either for a popular design or lack of choice for the customers. GreyC
    20. Hi, the first card is a plea for money and/or food to parents and siblings. He lacks both and writes that he is hungry. 2nd card is also about money. The father had sent his son 20 marks for which he thanks him. The rest is about health status of different family members. 3rd card informs addressee that sender got home well and that he has to do a lot of military exercices, apart from that no news. GreyC
    21. Hi, sender from RIR 207. Writes that he had a difficult time, but is now behind the lines to rest. Will write more if he has more time. GreyC
