    1. Dear fellow collectors I'd like to thank you all for your advice and help on this issue Kind regards, Laurentius
    2. Dear fellow collectors I have recently seen a photograph of a german WW2 officer, wearing the commanderscross of the swedish Vaasa-orden. Since then I have been trying to find out more about. I particularly like the design, which looks a lot like the german awards from WW1. I'm trying to find out about the design, the origin and whether they are still awarded. Might there be a website with this kind of information for collectors? I would also like to know if there are any militaria dealers/shops who happen to sell one at an affordable price. Kind regards, Laurentius
    3. Dear Joseph As Ilief stated earlier it could be both the grandcross or the first class of the order, As long as there is no award document with it we can't be sure. We are only sure of one thing, that this piece is a true work of art. I especially admire the detail in the crown, with the small pieces of green, white and red. Truly a wonderfull piece in great condition Kind regards, Laurentius
    4. Dear fellow collectors I think the second medal is not the hindenburgcross because I only see black and white stripes, and not any red stripes, something one would see with a FEK. I think rather a HOHx or a KOx or a PRAOx from the colonies. This is possible, since the Vizeadmiral has the DSWA-medal. Kind regards, Laurentius
    5. Dear KIR This is not King Ludwig II of Bavaria, the king held the grandcross and sash of the BMVO, whilst the official on the photograph only has the 3rd or 4rd class on his medalbar. I agree that the king and this official share similarities, but they aren't the same person. The king of bavaria has more orders and higher grades of those orders. Kind regards, Laurentius
    6. Dear fellow collectors Tsar ferdinand was also honorary commander of the 23rd royal Bavarian infantrie-regiment 'Konig Ferdinand der Bulgaren' Kind regards, Laurentius
    7. Dear fellow collectors A friend of mine has offered me this ribbonbar for sale. I'd like to have it but I have a few concerns, there is no hindenburgcross on the bar, something I would prefer but not with a TR bar. And there is also the white stitching at the back which doesn't really look okay to me. What are your opinions? Thanks in advance and kind regards, Laurentius
    8. Dear Scottplen The box is for the Bavarian Military Merit Cross 2nd class without swords, so the box and the award don't match. Furthermore I do not have enough knowledge of the BMVK to give you an honest answer. Kind regards, Laurentius
    9. Here is my lubeck hanseatic cross on a small bar, probably belongend to an enlisted man And a Lubeck ribbonbar, with a mecklenburg connection Kind regards, Laurentius
    10. Dear Mark McM It looks like a box bought to put awards in, they were quite common among the enlisted men. Most had eagles, iron cross or pictures of famous officers on them. This is not an official box for an award. Kind regards, Laurentius
    11. Dear Ixhs and Dedehansen Thank you both for this info, I'll be sure to use it Kind regards, Laurentius
    12. Dear fellow collectors I have recently purchased an Albrechtsorden 2nd class with swords by scharffenberg (SA3x) from Militaria-berlin which arrived yesterday. This piece had been on my list for quite some time, but now I'm holding it in my hands some kind of passion has started to burn within me, the passion I felt when I bought my first medal. In the future I'd like to buy a SA3x made by Roesner. The only pictures of a Roesner cross I could find where on http://www.medalnet.net/Albert_Manufacturers.htm . Would you guys have any pictures for me? Kind regards and thanks in advance, Laurentius
    13. Dedehansen and Chris Thank you kindly for your reactions, I was just a bit surprised that 2 big companies both are selling the same piece. Now it turns out that the GMVK at bene merenti is a spangestuck. Again, thank you both for your help. Kind regards, Laurentius
    14. Dear fellow collectors As I am new to this collection area I always try to learn, I often search the internet for pictures and info of basicly all the german medals from ww1. While doing this I found something peculiar. It turns out that Emedals and Bene merenti both are selling a Prussian golden military merit cross, and both the crosses have the same recipientphoto, and both claim that it belongs with their cross, could one of these be a spangestuck? https://lot-tissimo.com/de/i/12856835/p/26/ https://www.emedals.com/europe/germany/german-states/a-golden-military-merit-cross-by-wagner-to-a-serving-priest-g14543 Kind regards, Laurentius
    15. Dear Mattyboy I did some research and I found out that the badge on the left is the ´Großes jubilaumsabzeichen zum 50. jahrestag des 2. Lothringisches infantrie-regiment nr. 131 1881-1931 Kind regards, Laurentius
    16. Dear Mattyboy We can see an Iron Cross 1st class (OEK 1908), which is clearly sown onto the uniform! You don't see that too often, furthermore there is a mecklenburg militarverdienstkreuz (MVK) 1.st class (OEK 1350), the badge on the left looks a bit similar to the Prinz Alfons erinnerungsabzeichen and I don't know the badge on the right. It looks like something that could come from the saxon/thuringian states. Kind regards, Laurentius
    17. Dear chris I think it was called ´´infantrie greift an´´ because it discussed infantry and not gebirgsschutzen tactics. If I'm not mistaken it was largely about stoßtruppen, which were universally used in ww1, On every front and by all kinds of branches, simply because it worked. The former members of the army high command must have felt stupid during the kaiserschlacht, they had thrown away the lives of millions of young germans during offensives in which stronghold positions couldn't be captured, while the stoßtruppen just went around them and captured hugh chunks of land. Kind regards, Laurentius
    18. Dear chris He did, the centenar-medal was a commerative medal, given out to everyone who served in the german army, and everyone who served under emporer (then king of Prussia) Wilhelm I (If they were still alive). Kronprinz Wilhelm, was made an honorary leuitenant in the 1.st garde infantry regiment, stationed in potsdam. The rank of leuitenant was given at the same time as the Order of the black eagle. This order was bestowed on every male from the hohenzollern family (both protestant and catholic branches) at the age of ten. Kind regards, Laurentius
    19. Dear Chris As you said extrawurstchen was a thing of the time, just like kronprinz wilhelm having a centenary-medal for his position of ´´leuitenant´´ in the 1.st garde regiment in 1897, despite being 10. Kind regards, Laurentius
    20. Dear Chris I think the kampfwagen badges were awarded just like the flugzeugfuhrerabzeichen was awarded. A new technology, with a high casualty-rate. If I recall correctly Rick onces said that there was a deadrate of 90-95% among pilots in WW1. The tanks were a new technology, which was dangerous to use. One good blow from a big artillery gun and the whole crew (9-11 men) were dead. Badges for these new (now intregated) technologies were and still are a part of awardceremonies all around the world, submarine, tanks and planes all had their own award, simply because they were new. This was pushed through in WW2 and the army highcommand then choose to give every profession in the army it's own badge. There was simply no time to think about new awards for every branch of the army in ww1. Maybe if ww1 had been longer there would have been a Stoßtruppen-badge, and an artillery-badge. We'll never know... Kind regards, Laurentius
    21. I must say Paul, you have quite impressed me. When I first saw this bar up for auction a few weeks ago I wouldn't have thought it possible to have it ID'ed. You truly are an asset to GMIC. Kind regards Laurentius
    22. What a lovely bar claudio, I was also attanding the auction. I hoped to get the bavarian bar with the MVO4x, but most unfortunatly, someone was willing to pay more than me. But again, a lovely acquisition for your collection. Kind regards Laurentius
    23. Beautifull medalbar pegasus1831, a shame the medals are no longer present. I especially like the Austrian awards on the bar, from which you can see the Austrian connection to the regiment. If I'm not mistaken the 5th and the last medal are austrian? The 5th is a order of the iron crown for sure. A lovely bar to have Kind regards, Laurentius
    24. Dear fellow collectors Although this topic hasn't been used since april of 2016 I do have a question regarding this medalbar. How is it possible that the red piece of ribbon of the Ehrenkreuz fur Frontkampfer is faded, while the rest of the red ribbons are bright, even those awarded 15 to 20 years earlier? Thanks in advance Kind regards Laurentius
