i thought to place this question here, as what i want to know and for sure like - is "discuessed" here. i'm looking in this sub forum more often, as i really like what stories exist behind the awards (one digit different and a total different story - thats the thing what really amazes me!) so now the question - which decoration i should buy for getting also a "story" with it. no looking for a fighter pilot, admiral or tank unit hero (if it will turn out to be something like this - GREAT, but if not also GREAT!) its more the thing, that i want to get an award which will be researchable and to be awarded for something (not long service or sitting 3 years behind the frontline) something war related (normal frontline soldier) and this award should be in the "lower" price area - (as i mentioned before - normal frontline soldiers award - and best would be with enamel - as my main focus, imperial germany is so expensive if you look at enamel, and if a single award, not even researchable) hope i could explain what i'm looking for and hope that i can get some help from forum members. thanks very much in advance christian

EK 1914 copper iron cross ?
Christian L replied to Christian L's topic in Germany: All Eras: The Iron Cross
its in the hands of a collector friend of mine - here are a little bigger pics of the front and reverse. he also told me that i his eyes it seems to be casted of copper. its 5.5 mm thick. -
while looking through the few pictures i have in my collection, i recogniced this pic and like to share it with you. this guy is a very good example for the words, that the longer the way, the better it gets - and for me, his turkish decoration is really an eye-catcher. hope you like it as much as i do. ('m i correct that the turkish one is for live saving?)

wow he is also a very interesting guy! but hard to tell as well! why can't these pics contain a name on the back - it would make it so much easier to "understand-and-get-into-history"!!!! but if ever a name would come up, and the story gets up to the surfice as well, i'd guess, that it would be incredible!!! (and to tell the trouth, i only bought the picture at first because of the DSWA-medal ribbon - "recogniced" the real beauty of the picture first when i hold it in my hands at home ) christian

Christian L replied to Christian L's topic in Northern European & Baltic States

Cossack medal ?
Christian L replied to Grant Broadhurst's topic in USSR: Soviet Orders, Medals & Decorations
don't know the exact numbers, but many survived and live now in the area the communist brought them to or in their original regions. still today many cossacks are proud of their history in the way of seeing themselfs as true soldiers. so even nowadays new cossack associations getting formed (many have less than 100 members) - as many want to be some kind of chief the associations are more a family and friend association. as they wear uniforms they also issue medals (its some kind of "family-army" they creat) everything is totally inofficial - but still beeing done. a very interesting area to get researched but russian language is NEEDED (and as i don't have any russian language skills, for me this subject is something i get from the 2nd but not the "frist-hand") christian -
