Alfred replied to Gerd Becker's topic in USSR: Soviet Orders, Medals & Decorations
The difference to a Typ 3 Var 5 seem to be in the torch and the middle where the hammer and sickle are. regards Andreas -

Alfred replied to usairforce's topic in USSR: Soviet Orders, Medals & Decorations
I am not totally sure, but I didn?t like it. It seems to be, that the deatails are blurred and not crisp. regards Andreas -
Hello Gerd, no sadly I only have this 3rd class document. They become rare. Years ago you saw them often on ebay. regards Andreas

Soviet And another ORB for the collection...
Alfred replied to Gerd Becker's topic in USSR: Soviet Orders, Medals & Decorations
nice piece Gerd , that would be an enrichment for your collection and to the group to which to red banner belongs. What other awards are missing from the group ? regards Andreas "So, what is the reason, why this one is special? Andreas, you are excluded from this quiz " -
Soviet Order of Glory 3rd Class 641096
Alfred replied to order_of_victory's topic in USSR: Soviet Orders, Medals & Decorations
His rank is private, a translation of the word could be red soldier. In German the word is "Rotarmist" He served in the 1.376 Rifle Regiment, 417 Rifle Divison. regards Andreas -

Soviet Medal for Valor
Alfred replied to baibai's topic in USSR: Soviet Orders, Medals & Decorations
I look a second time at the medal and, it could be a original one. Comapare the P in the word CCCP with a P in the later versions of the medals and with the earlier one. The P looks okay for a hand engraved medal. Maybe the ring broke off and was replaced later. regards Andreas -
Soviet Medal for Valor
Alfred replied to baibai's topic in USSR: Soviet Orders, Medals & Decorations
To my mind a fake, look at the ring of the medal and the engraving style looks horroble. regards Andreas -

Soviet 30th years anniversary of army and navy
Alfred replied to Alfred's topic in USSR: Soviet Orders, Medals & Decorations
Here is a better scan of the medal. It is not really an U-shaped medal. If you look at a certain point of angle it looks so. In my oppinion the medal is okay. regards Andreas -

Soviet Excellent Sniper Badge
Alfred replied to Christian Zulus's topic in USSR: Soviet Orders, Medals & Decorations
Christian, try this side. There are all versions of the badges shown. http://www.znakisssr.h15.ru/ Here is a copy of a sniper badge. I never saw a real one with these upright lines. A good indicator is the fixing of the screwpost. If it looks like a screw, it?s a fake. The first fakes of these badges appeared in 1991 or 1992. regards Andreas -
Soviet Excellent Submariner Badge
Alfred replied to Christian Zulus's topic in USSR: Soviet Orders, Medals & Decorations
There are many different variants of these bages. The pictures are not very clear. Expecially you can?t see the screwpost. But I think both (sniper and submariner) are fakes. The screwpost tip looks very sharp and unused. I will post pictures of fakes later. regards Andras -
Soviet Order of Glory - when?
Alfred replied to usairforce's topic in USSR: Soviet Orders, Medals & Decorations
Serial number 123.735 was awarded 05.08.1944 to a member of the 69 Army. So my guess, to your number. (see Paul J. Schmitt Echoes of War page 139) regards Andreas -
Soviet Order of Glory - when?

Soviet Lavrov Nikolaj Dimirievich
Alfred replied to order_of_victory's topic in USSR: Soviet Orders, Medals & Decorations
Yes, or they gave the german towns new polish names. I could find any of these towns (Kimverden, Altdamm, Oberhof) on a new map from Poland. http://mapa.szukacz.pl/?z_city_id=24&form_t=1 regards Andreas
