Crosses in exces: the story of G.A.W. ter Pelkwijk
JohanH replied to laurentius's topic in Northern European & Baltic States
I remember seeing that group for sale at auction. Here is his entry in the award roll of the Order of the North Star. March 2nd 1923. -
That cross looks familiar... Was it not for sale on Tradera in Sweden a while ago? Did you buy it? And can we see a photo of the reverse?

Finnish Group - Holder Identification
JohanH replied to oamotme's topic in Northern European & Baltic States
That is a very interesting group! Your identification of the medals are correct and the bar looks original to me. I would say that the only way to ID the original owner is to find a roll of the Jordanian medal and go from there. All the other medals are too common. As far as I know there are no complete list of iron crosses to finns. My own list has around 500 names so there where a lot of awards made. -
Unfortunately no, my list only tells the name, rank and date. As far as I know there are no citations on why someone was awarded an order in Sweden. Possibly there might exists something in the royal archives but i doubt it. Yes, the very last order of Vasa 2nd class was awarded on December 12th 1973. To a German female attaché. At the same day as Meixner got his award there was several germans who got the same order. See my list below. 1419 Tyskland Günter Poggel Tyskt Amtsrat 1972-05-02 1420 Tyskland Hans Georg Gron Tysk regieruungsamtsmann 1972-05-02 1421 Tyskland Alfred Megons Tyskt Amtsrat 1972-05-02 1422 Tyskland Heinrich Meixner Tysk kriminalhauptkommissar 1972-05-02 1423 Tyskland Herbert Esher Tysk kriminalhauptkommissar 1972-05-02 1424 Tyskland Richard Grundei Tysk kriminaloberkommissar 1972-05-02 1425 Tyskland Günter Krop Tysk kriminaloberkommissar 1972-05-02 1426 Tyskland Eberhard Kunis Tysk Verwaltungsdirektor 1972-05-02 1427 Tyskland Hans Schliebush Tysk Oberamtsrat 1972-05-02 1428 Tyskland Georg Krohn Tysk Oberamtsrat 1972-05-02 1429 Tyskland Otto Lenz Tysk Oberamtsrat 1972-05-02 1430 Tyskland Fritz Schmidt Tysk regierungsamtsmann 1972-05-02 1431 Tyskland Philipp Kappes Tysk Amtsrat 1972-05-02 1432 Tyskland Georg Erhardt Tysk Oberamtsrat 1972-05-02

Hello! Heinrich Meixner got the Order of Vasa on May 2nd 1972. He was the 1422nd person of a total of 1471 to get that order.

Here is a clip from the Danish State Calendar 1890. It says Oberstlieutnant, but perhaps they updated his rank in the state calendar when he got promoted? Here is the clip from the Norwegian state calendar of 1890. It says Major... I also checked the Danish State Calendar of 1889 and there he is listed as major.

Netherlands Dutch Medals and Medalbars
JohanH replied to Yankee's topic in Northern European & Baltic States
Hello! Unfortunately no, I have been working on the list of recipients of the Swedish Order of the Sword. But I own two pieces of Vasatecknet. One with a rosette for a female recipient. -
This has already been discussed.

Seber group / Founder of Finnish airforce 1917/1918
JohanH replied to misiu's topic in Northern European & Baltic States
Do you have a picture or a link? -
Sorry! I missed your message. Attached are a photo from the book Kunnian ruletti: korkeimmat ulkomaalaisille 1941-1944. I understand it that he had the 2nd class cross. I can't say for certain but most likely it was the version with swords. There were only 53 crosses without swords awarded so I would say it was the version with swords. Hubert Schmundt is not in the list of Libertycrosses 1st class with swords and oakleaves in Matikkala's book. Only in the list over 1st class crosses with swords.

Is the IC 2nd class 1870 real?
JohanH replied to JohanH's topic in Germany: All Eras: The Iron Cross
Thank you very much Graf for your reply! I was hoping it would be earlier than WW1. -
Hello! Can anyone advice me if this 1870 Iron cross is a real piece? It is currently for sale, so not my pictures.

Thank you very much with your help! You truly are gentlemen! I am far from an expert, but is this really correct? Lt.d.M.I.d.R.m = Leutnant der Reserve der Matrosenartillerie I would have guessed it would be Leutnant der Marineinfanteri der Reserve or something. Would Ober Bts. Mt. d.Ldst be Ober-Bootsmannsmaat der Landsturm? Or what does Ldst mean? I might ask some more questions about abbrevations later. Not necessarily ranks but more about troops, regiments and such. Should I create a new topic for that or continue here?
