    1. What is the item of kit?. What period is it from?. If it is pre-1920s the 18H could be for the 18th Hussars. Pete.
    2. 72nd Infantry Battalion (Vancouver), Canadian Expeditionary Force, WW1. Pete.
    3. Quite right too, I could not agree more. Pete.
    4. The 1950s date would make your badge that of the Arab Legion, a British led force that was operational from 1920 to 1956. The later badge of the Jordanian Army was originally the same but I believe the Arabic script changed later. Pete.
    5. No DCM awards to RN until 1916 (Royal Naval Division) and 1942 (Royal Navy and Royal Air Force). RN had the Conspicuous Gallantry Medal instead. Pete.
    6. It would depend on how long he served for. If he had any other service medals the most likely one would be the UN medal for Cyprus. Pete.
    7. A small correction for the record, the King's Regiment (Liverpool) was amalgamated with the Manchester Regiment in 1958 to form the King's Regiment (Manchester and Liverpool). The medal belongs to the latter. Pete.
    8. Badly fretted, pimply finish, apparent artificial ageing especially to the rear, not one that I would throw money at, sorry. Pete.
    9. I would advise you to join the British and Commonwealth Military Badge Forum for the best advice on the authenticity of those badges. I usually avoid giving opinions myself on what is good or bad as it generally tends to be too much hassle. I will only say that several of yours would not appeal to me if I was still a collector. Pete.
    10. Tony, he could have served in WW1 entirely on home service in which case he would have had no medal entitlement at all. Pete.
    11. The photo is definitely post-WW1 as shown by the medal ribbons worn by the two men in the centre. The corporal is wearing the ribbon of the Military Medal as well as the WW1 trio and the other man wears the ribbons of the WW1 trio as well. The photo has more of a late 1920s/early 1930s look about it. Pete.
    12. The 1914 Star ribbon is the wrong way round, it should be red white blue from left to right. The oak leaf should be on the ribbon of the Victory Medal. Pete.
    13. Going by the buttons I would say Durham Light Infantry and if so the facings should be dark green. Pete.
    14. Thanks, I thought that might be the case but it seems rather odd somehow. Pete.
    15. I am wondering if a holder of the QGM on being awarded the KGM would receive the KGM or a clasp to be worn on the QGM. Just a thought. Pete.
    16. Terry, if you look at it as a red x instead of a red + you have, with the blue circle, the emblem of the Saint Andrew's Ambulance Association. In 1904 they formed the Saint Andrew's Ambulance Corps which had sections serving in France attached to the medical services in WW1. They would have worn standard British Army uniforms with Red Cross insignia so maybe you have a StAAC sleeve badge or something like that. Pete.
    17. Tom, my advice to you is to join the British and Commonwealth Military Badge Forum, membership is free and there are some real badge experts on there. Your badge looks alright to my eyes but there are some clever fakers (con merchants, grasping scumbags) who know all the tricks of the trade. If your badge is the real deal then it's certainly not a common badge so get some advice from the experts before you part with it. Pete.
    18. Worn by Warrant Officers 1881-84, some sources say 1881-95, on the round forage cap. Pete.
    19. Royal Irish Regiment. The collar badges show the flat-topped shield above the thick curling scroll as worn by the regiment. Pete.
    20. Having looked more closely at the photo I am now of the opinion that those collar badges are Royal Irish Regiment. Pete.
    21. Tony, those ribbons are not attached to the collar, they are part of the glengarry. The collar badges are the best hope of identification but they are too vague although they do have a hint of the shamrock in the shape. Pete.
    22. Because I used to have a thing about Nurse Gladys Emmanuel. Pete.
