At last I have found time to post!!! Here is mine to Feldpostbote, later Feldpostschaffner Paul Drehmel.

Not only an interesting Soldbuch which we chatted about at the time Gordon, however what is also interesting to me are the pages from the Wehrpaß. I have a Soldbuch and ancillary documents to a member of 1 Kavallerie, later 24 Panzer Division who was transferred mid 1944 to Grenadier (?) Regiment Kreta and interestingly page 11-12 and 32-33 are the only pages of the Wehrpaß that exist!!! Obviously either something common to that Division or coincidence?!?! Of course other units did this and individuals but it is annoying that the rest of the document probably got tossed in the bin or on the fire! /Ian

Very nice Kevin! Not very often seen Soldbuch to a Feldpostbote!!! I have a couple but to be honest that is all I have seen in 10 years or so. I did have mine shown on WAF but it is so long ago...or greater than 5 years!!! that the thread is now gone. Will try and post an image of mine on Friday when I got home.....like yours he wears "FP" cyphers on the epps. /Ian

Normally there is a mention such as "born 1918 in Essen the son of a butcher etc". There are 7 listed on the German war graves site.........out of those this is the only one that could be a match!?!?!? Again it's difficult to say for sure....I have examples where the guy has been entitled to both classes of KVK and only the 1st class has been entered in the Soldbuch or Wehrpa?! Simply as they appear to be crossed out at the time seems to suggest that it was an error. Regards, Ian

Difficult to say if he received it or not, however seeing as he does not have any other awards maybe the clerk on the day picked up the wrong Wehrpa? to fill in! He does not appear to have the first grade PAB but if he did have sufficient for the II grade then that could have been waved, nor does he appear to have any combat awards! He was trained as a clerk, radio operator, Pz. commander, equipment and weapons adminstrator, latterly as the Hauptfeldwebel or "Der Spie?"!.....perhaps not in front line combat then!?!? The scan is a bit blurry but is that a KVK I m/S? Is the KVK II m/S mentioned anywhere? Unfortunately I too have examples where awards have been crossed out like this and the buying point was not these awards as there was (like yours!) no authorising signature. These are not officially erased awards due to being foreign for example or revoked however! It is a nice Wehrpa? but perhaps with a mistake! Regards, Ian

Hi Simon, That I do not know yet....I have a copy of the Channel Islands Occupation Society (CIOS) Review 1983 which gives a little info on the unit and an in depth book on "Batterie Lothringen" by one of the CIOS committe members but only just started researching it! I was very pleased to get this, Marine Artillerie/Flak is also an interest of mine but so far I have not found what actions the Battery was involved in....no doubt as you say shooting down aircraft. I need to find where 5 Batterie was.....there were some actions on Sark I believe February/March 1945 with the Allies but I need to reseach that info again. Maybe John Temple-West might be able to point me in the right direction? Cheers, Ian

Here's a late war citation for the Kriegsabzeichen f?r die Marine Artillerie on poor quality paper. Interestingly it is dated 21.2.1945 and signed by Vizeadmiral Friedrich H?ffmeier, Kommandant der Seeverteidigung Kanalinseln. Hauptgefreiter Karl... was a member of FP Nr. 41645 C - 5 Batterie, Marine-Artillerie-Abteilung 604. Also possibly 2 Batterie! From what little info I can find out, Marine-Artillerie-Abteilung 604 was on Guernsey and somewhere on the internet (not found again!) there was mention of 5 Batterie being on Sark!? 3 Batterie (Batterie Lothringen) is well known for being stationed on Jersey at Noirmont Point. Thanks Mike, Actually surfing the net I found out a little about the award and that it was not favoured by the Third Reich, even to the point of stopping the career of certain individuals if they continued to wear their award on their uniform.
